Translation earbuds or tools will be as good as the people you are speaking to. If he or she is impatient and refuse to entertain because you don't speak their language, then earbuds will be useless tools. But what we can gather from the video is that the Chinese, in general are the patient lot. They listen and they reply, kind of give you the feeling of friendliness and sincerity. China is definitely a country you can stay for a long long time. Happy you have fun there, Nico!

Yeah I mean Google translate is great for quick conversations. What is good about these is if you were with a friend you could each put an earbud in and speak without having to use the phone as it goes straight into your ear. But as watchers you can’t hear what it says in the ear so I had to illustrate it on the phone.

Learning the local language can actually avoid a lot of malice from strangers This video reminds me of what happened to me in ND, USA. I was a sophomore in college at the time and was taking the bus to class in the morning. I was checking in with my parents on the phone, and I was using Chinese. There were two blondes in the back seat chatting, "Why would foreigners come to America if they can't even speak English, are they going to live here in their own language for the rest of their lives? They should get the hell back to their own country and use their own language there." They probably thought I didn't understand English.
@RSMaxxy3 жыл бұрын
So it was totally beyond the comprehension of those two that A) you were having a private conversation which was precisely 0% their business, B) people can speak more than one language, and C) people might use different languages when talking to different people? Ugh, anglophones...

1:46 Cringe-worthy. It literally translates what you said but you shouldn't use 他们 because they're objects and not people. I would've asked it as 我可不可以带走吗 Can I take it away? When I visit my local Tianjin restaurant, they always ask me 在这里吃 or 带走。The translator gets away with it because 他 (he),她 (she) & 它(it) all have the same tone. But the more correct version of above would then be 我可以带它们去吗 ...but is this a correct way to ask or is it better to use my version 我可不可以带走吗 ?
