Here's a quick cinematic video I shot in Tokyo with the iphone 15 pro max apple log. Using Blackmagic cam to monitor with display luts. Then graded in Davinci Resolve.

Dude some of that footage is bonkers. I love how much softer it is with ProRes log in comparison to the over sharpened look with the computational videography. Stunning.

Good job and the video looks great and demonstrates the power of using the iPhone 15 Pro Max with the BMC app. Yes there are a few quirks with the app. But once you have mastered them, it only gets better and more powerful. It is like any tool, you have to use it and adapt it to your requirements. The newest BMC update adds more capability and features. Blackmagic is really supporting this app. It is a game changer for me and most people.

Thans for sharing, what storage size Iphone would you get for using iphone as run & gun spontaneous camera or sometimes as B or C camera next to Sony Mirrorless line?

I don't know any good editors on the phone at the moment that support luts, therefore I just dump all the footage on my laptop / ssd. So storage doesn't really make a difference.

@@legniak1 no. you have three options. off (for use on tripods or whatever to avoid ibis shake), standard (i believe this only uses the hardware IBIS), cinematic (ibis+digital stab), extreme (ibis+lots of digital stab, i would avoid using this)

Worth the upgrade as he added ProRes Log though and I don't think iPhone 14 pro got that log system. Hmm... welcome to the Tech world, every year, sth little gets added, and it's massive. Unless you are cool with what your iPhone 14 pro is giving you - but if you like what you saw, then that's plus a log to color grade correctly.

This is kinda making me want to shoot more on my galaxy S10. (It's from 2019 but also has log and grading it was every bit as fun as I assume grading the iPhone footage would be. Only thing is that there's still a bit of oversharpening, which the iPhone seems to have been able to get rid of.)

S10 doesn’t have log. That’s why the 15 is such a big deal, what you have looms similar to log with a flat look, with slightly higher dynamic range. Hence why your footage still looks “sharp”

@@Richard_Leon I think at this point most mid/high end Android phones can shoot log and raw via Motioncam Pro and other apps. Some of the raw footage people have been getting is considerably better than on the iphone too - but the workflow is currently a bit long winded (and a lot of storage) since it's using DNG raw sequences. The quality seems worth it though. I'm sure we'll see the workflow get easier too since some are already testing going from raw > prores on the fly which I think is a happy medium.

I record on the phone directly, keeping the footage on the blackmagic cam app. I then airdrop it to my mac/ssd and delete the footage from the phone.

Hi, I have the iPhone 14 pro max and heading to Japan this December. What is your recommended settings to record videos and upload them to Instagram? I’ve seen other people suggested 4K 30 fps or 4K 60 fps. Also, do you suggest if I should have the phone camera lense protector on? Not sure if it affects the quality by much.

My solution to that has just been to either do sound design in post or just use what I can from the internal mic which isn't horrible depending on the use case. As soon as I start rigging up the phone I'd rather just go all the way and use the fx3 in that case.

i have my camera settings on 4k at 25 fps (PAL) and i feel like it’s not really the best option to record. saw a video once that this setting would stop recording the flickering of lights

In PAL countries it kind of does. You can also just set your shutter to 1/50 and record 24fps with no flicker. But if you have to increase shutter speed, then 25 does stop the flickering, but you'll have to slow down to 96% speed on a 24fps timeline. So for exaple the daytime scenes here I recorded at 25 because otherwise there was a lot of flicker.

Bro, I have a question. I use both S23 ultra and Iphone 15 prm. But really I do not know, why everytime I recorded video in 24fps, the fps seem not right so much. It's kind of not smooth as you did. So I usually have to filming at 30fps or 60fps and than render in 30fps. Can you tell my why?

You need to film in 60fps. That's what gives it that silky smooth motion. After that edit the video and slow it down by 25% or more and then when you view the footage it will have that smooth cinematic slow motion effect

Why Blackmagic camera app turns off the flashlight light after I turn it on my iPhone 15 Pro Max whenever I use Blackmagic camera app to record videos at night or in the dark room? Without flashlight light on, it records black videos in the dark room. Apple camera app lets iphone flashlight light on whenever I record videos in the dark or at night. Blackmagic shoiul update this featurue for iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max.

I bought an iPhone 15 Pro for making videos and they just look so bad, everything is grainy. The videos are unsharp that you cant even read text and overall the videos just look like their made from an iPod

Without any further info I have no idea why. Borrowed the iPhone 15 Pro Max from a friend and would say it is capable of producing content that looks quite different from any other phone on the market (unless you have tried MotionCam Pro RAW video on modern Android phones).
