Karlovtsi are the place where The Treaty of Karlowitz was signed on 26 January 1699 concluding the Great Turkish War of 1683-1697 in which the Ottoman Empire had been defeated by the Holy League. It marks the end of Ottoman control in much of Central Europe, with their first major territorial losses after centuries of expansion, and established the Habsburg Monarchy. So one of the most important treaty in the European history was signed there. Town has huge role in Serbian history, religion (location of Serbian church seat), political capital of Serbs under Austrian rule, first Serbian gymnasium (grammar school) etc

That's right. When Treaty of Karlowitz was signed It was also the first time a round table was used in international politics. There is Kapela mira (Peace Chapel), erected on the spot where the Treaty of Karlowitz was negotiated. Its shape reminds of the tent in which the negotiations took place. Another interesting fact is that Bermet wine from Sremski Karlovci was served on the Titanic.

Then you can see that they visited the REPUBLIC OF KOSOVO and proudly showed the flag of Kosovo, not the Serbian flag which has no meaning there.

@@Koenigstiger92 I am not internet warrior, I can't say the same for you. I love to see how they enjoy in our country. From Prizren to Belgrade and now Sremski Karlovci. I dоn't understand your comment on Serbian flag. Our flag is the part of United Nations. The UN SC Resolution 1244 said clearly all about our holy land and southern province of Kosovo and Metohija.

@NostaIgia Comment section is under their control. They certainly like political correctness. I am politically correct and I speak without any provocations. According to the United Nations, Kosovo is part of Serbia. And it is their choice and right to write and speak as they wish. Maybe they will delete some comments from Serbs who are much more angry about this. You can't know. I know that they are honest and enjoy in our counrty, they are not going to much deep into other issues. I am proud that they were able to enjoy our Kosovo and Metohija, just as they enjoyed Belgrade. Fortunately, they are not Serbs, so they did not have to worry about their own security in Kosovo and Metohija.

I am so glad you guys went to Sremski Karlovci and I hope next: Novi Sad! Just a reminder, Philological High School (University preparatory School for foreign languages) was established in 1792, the oldest High School in Serbia. Normally, it is open for tourists, it's lovely inside and outside. Just a suggestion: on the main square there is a very old and charming 'Apoteka' (Chemist or Pharmacy). Architectural style of your Hotel and the High School is Baroque and City Hall and other buildings in the square are Neoclassical.

Interesting fact: After the Russian Revolution many white army followers came to Serbia and settled there. Sremski Karlovci became their center, mainly because Field Marshal Wrangel, the Whites' commander in chief, moved there. He died in Bruxelles but wanted to be buried in Serbia and he is buried in the Russian church in Belgrade that is just behind St Mark's church.

Sremski Karlovci is a small town. No matter the number of people living in it. It is famous for wine, of course. But, it is most famous as a seat of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Once was a seat of the patriarchate. You can see some very old churches. Go check some Wikipedia articles, they are pretty much ok. Sremski Karlovci is a very important town in Serbia.

"The Bermet" is a good choice for a restaurant, though a bit pricier than average kafana outside Belgrade. It is a shame no one told you about kuglof cake in S. Karlovci, it goes so well with bermet as a dessert. There are different flavours, all fantastic, home-made, very characteristic in shape. There is a little shop in the street leading to the City museum, on the right side, about 50 metres from the main square where they sell bigger and smaller ones, also by weight. In good weather it is also sold in the market in the main square, with souvenirs and other hand-made products. A bottle of bermet (0.7 l) costs from 800 dinars up. The whole region of Frushka gora produces good wine. Wineries are all around and in the vicinity of the town, most of them have old cellars dug into the hill, like the "Bailo" winery, well worth visiting - it is just across the street from Kuglof shop. There is a winery behind the old Patriarchate building as well, in the back garden. There is a bee-keeping museum well-worth seeing (in one with the winery), I think the most famous in S. Karlovci, frequented by tourists and celebrities. There are signs in the streets showing the way to wineries. There is an old royal park in the town, there is the monument to Branko R., the poet, in a picnic area about 4 km from the town, and there is the Danube river with two restaurants on its very bank - a very big and popular one, and a finer, smaller and more expensive one. For those eager to explore, there is much more in S. Karlovci than just catches the eye at first glance.

Belgrade & Novi Sad? Not really, have you ever heard about ski resorts like Kopaonik, Zlatibor, Stara Planina, spa Vrnjacka banja, Prolom banja, Fruške terme... There are a lot of unknown places to see. Empty streets? I'm not sure. Now it's lockdown and everything is closed. We don't have sea but we have monastiries, ski resorts, beautiful Sumadija landscapes, gastronomy tourism, famous festivals like Exit, Guča, Nišville...

Serbia is full of fantastic places to visit, tourism is on rising, the same is with Albania. Who would think about visiting Albania 30 years ago? With more and more people visiting that area from Albanian Adriatic to Pannonian plane, tourism will develop strongly, we all just need peace and good infrastructure and that is happening.

It’s beautiful Because before WW2 it was a part of Croatia. The Yugoslav Communist regime of Tito carved it out of Croatia and made it a a oart of Vojvodina , which is niw a part of Serbia.

@@Lilly-hh9es Croatia has a history much grander than Serbia’s....Serbia has such a negative image to this day not even half Croat Novak Djokovic was able to improve this forever tarnished image of Serbia 🇷🇸 being a human rights manipulator.
