My grandfather was a retired driver engineer in Dallas Texas. He had plenty of chances to test higher but never did because he loved driving so much. He also loved cooking so he was always the one cooking the meals in the station. He always told me that he would eat his dessert before he ate dinner because if they got a call during the meal, he had already eaten his favorite part. I miss him and his stories everyday

I think the engineer should have a part time gig on the radio, he surely does have the voice for it.

No self respecting engineer checks off the truck this early in the morning. All good engineers need a minimum on one hour of drinking coffee and clowning with the crew before heading out into the bay.

Just retired after 30 years of service in the fire department, spent the last 20 years as a D/E, I'll never forget my first day in the seat, fully involved wood frame structure, I had 2- 1 3/4" attack lines with TFT fog nozzles deployed, 1-3" line with TFT fog nozzle and the deluge gun. Great shift for a new D/E.

Pretty awesome that you put out videos like this for the public to get a better sense of the culture and what goes on. We seriously need more stuff like this with law enforcement, and ways for the public to feel more comfortable with them (police/sherif/troopers..) In my old home town in CA, they had a "coffee with a cop" day at a popular local Starbucks. I was pretty shocked when I saw a cop in full uniform with a starbucks apron serving my coffee, and many others standing around outside. (This is controversial, as some may cringe at being served coffee by an officer who didn't do his job in their situation, but overall I think it's good to be able walk up and talk with/get to know whose protecting and enforcing your area) In today's society, we are definitely lacking the element of public/personal interaction with our emergency service personnel and law enforcement. I mean when, when an officer walks by you going into starbucks, and you say "hi, how are you?", but you get a dirty look and not even a hello.....no wonder people have lost confidence in some of our services. Loved the video. You guys are heroes. Many other countries don't have a 911, and it's always surprising how quickly personnel arrive, so definitely a blessing!

Using what is probably now a $1M piece of equipment as a blocking vehicle isn’t a good idea, I understand that it is a large piece of equipment but also quite complex and difficult to repair. I work for a state agency that is responsible for roads and I recall that in the 2000’s the city of Grand Rapids MI had two fire trucks damaged in a blocking role on the freeway. They took a city plow that was going to auction but in the best condition of the group for the year, rebuilt the drivetrain, removed the unnecessary equipment, added an attenuator and arrow board. They called it utility 2 when I was up there, much less expensive than repairing or replacing a fire truck and more safe for the idiot that drives into it.

That is an understandable point of view. $1M is quite a large number. A few years ago we had a fire engine struck and totaled on the interstate while our crew was providing care to patients at a Motor Vehicle Crash (MVC). The engine was parked to protect the 4 firefighters, 2 police officers, and the patients in the wrecked vehicles. While none of our folks were injured by the car, the pumper was destroyed by the impact and subsequent fire. Roadway Fatalities: ResponderSafety.com 2019: 44 2020: 46 2021: 65 2022: 51 2023: 45 We consider ourselves very lucky to have lost 1 fire engine instead of adding 6 more people to the 251 who’ve lost their lives on the roads while serving their communities in the past 5 years.

@@CobbFireVideos I would guess that you are fire rescue so would have a better idea about the cost of apparatus than I. When the wrecks happened around the 2010s the fire trucks ran 300-500k and I am looking at the escalation of costs for a tandem plow more than double since then. And I would think that fire apparatus is more difficult to repair. I have not seen or heard of this concept being applied elsewhere. I know that jurisdictions are who pays for what are the primary difficulties beyond that where the unit is stationed. We had a firefighter killed a few years back which could have been prevented by such an asset. I have no true answers, but dedicated blocking vehicles save lives. And the issues have to be resolved by local politicians so god help us.

Awesome video, but as far as the table top drilling goes, who cares what the dimensions of the haligan are haha, but also, when responding to an accident, you want to take two lanes, angle the rig, so it's safer for the brothers to get off.

I’m jealous. In my background we had zero, and I do mean zero, room for discretion or preference with regard to loading or positioning of tools and equipment. You were having an unfriendly discussion with someone who wears a yellow or white had just because you put the irons upside down in the rack.

As you store your firefighting gear check the site gauge on your water level. Sit in the drivers seat and adjust seat and mirrors. Check fuel level, air pressure, head lights, signal lights, scene lights and emergency light’s ( while plugged in or with engine running). Check wiper operation and rubber condition. ( rainy weather) Check battery strength on all portable radios. Check Captain’s SCBA and mine. Check that all books and keys are present. Check all compartments and the readiness of all equipment. Check engine compartment for leakage and damaged hoses and belts - use flash light. Check all fluid levels (bodily fluids) 😉 Change out drinking water ( add ice on hot days) Start engine and engage pump. Check relief valve setting. Check pressure gauge operation and engine gauges at pump panel. Check pump panel light. Check all hose lays and nozzle settings. Underneath: Check automatic brake slack adjusters. Check drive line play, check for leaks and seepage. Look at bottom of engine for leaks and seepage ( fuel, coolant or oil). Check brake peddle play and response at slow speed. At slow speed ( about one or Two mph the park brake ( air operated) should stop the vehicle abruptly - if not and the vehicle comes to a slow gradual stop you have a problem with a part of the brake system. Log your morning truck check and list anything that is of concern. Go have another cup of coffee. Wipe it down and wax it as necessary😉😂😂😂
