One thing I forgot to add was eating the Vietnamese food here. That coffee shop I went to does an amazing bowl of pho for less than $2. I was too busy trying to film to eat anything that day haha.

Da Nang has beaches unlike Saigon. That's a good reason to move there. I passed through there going to Hoi An back in December. It was raining and cold. I could see the beach from the highway all empty of course since it was raining and chilly. Those businesses by the beach probably got wifi which would make a great place to work from for those who work during day time hours. Will make lots of people envious to see someone working with a laptop on the beach.
@AlisonLinh6 жыл бұрын
Wayne Samuel The weather is perfect now! Not too hot, not too cold. I hope you get a chance to visit again during a better time in the year. Haha I guess I'm bringing my laptop to the beach today! :)
@samthepoet1076 жыл бұрын
It's Goldilocks weather not too much of either hot or cold but just right. I was there for 11 days starting in Hanoi. stayed at Ha Long Bay one night.. went into the underground caves. Continued on to Hue stayed there a couple days then traveled down a mountain road near the sea..stopped off at a rest stop where it was windy and freezing. Then passed Da Nang on the way to Hoi An and stayed there a few days. Then went to the Da Nang airport and took a flight to Saigon. Stayed there a few days. Visited the Mekong Delta. So many regions for a slim looking country. Met up with a Vietnamese friend I chat with for years but first time we met at Highland Coffee. Then met another friend who had to come escort me to cross the street due to incessant traffic. So that's my second time to Vietnam in two years. Like the Chef Anthony Bourdain says there's something about Vietnam that makes one say "I must return." Yeah you should post a picture of you working on the beach with a laptop with the caption 'This Is My 9-5 Only Thing I Only Work a Few Hours a Day."
@AlisonLinh6 жыл бұрын
Wayne Samuel Wayne Samuel haha "Goldilocks weather" yes. It's very surprising how much diverse landscape Vietnam has to offer. I love it! By the way, I'm totally going to take that picture on the beach and steal that caption. :)
@samthepoet1076 жыл бұрын
Lol good for you..take the caption..maybe you can print that on T-shirts and sell like some vloggers do to make money for their channel. I read your comment on Philippines. Yes, people are friendly and tend to speak English.. Speaking English helps them find jobs around the world so it's an incentive to learn English. You did not say if they recite a prayer on the ferry before they take off. They usually do.
@AlisonLinh6 жыл бұрын
Haha I will if I ever make it that big! Thanks :) I believe it's like that all around Asia. If you speak English, you will be more successful or something. I heard that there were so many Philippino dialects that English is a common language for everyone. I was sitting at a coffee shop and listening to these two locals have a business meeting and it was like mostly in their language with some English words every now and then. Interesting. I do not personally hear a prayer on the ferry, but I'm sure people were praying. A couple of our ferry rides got really wavy and crazy!

That sounds like a great time... but I have a question. What do you do for health insurance and retirement? You appear to be in your early 20's. This seems to be the life style for someone that is established. Trust fund?
@AlisonLinh6 жыл бұрын
David Swenson That is a very good question. Unfortunately, no trust fund, but I am under 25 so I am still under my father's health insurance. However, international health insurance isn't too expensive here. As for retirement, I haven't thought that far yet. Living in Vietnam has allowed me to save up lots of money. Hopefully, if I keep working, I will be able to save up a decent amount. I have no idea how much you would need for retirement though.
@lawrencel25446 жыл бұрын
Alison Linh trust me...dont think about retirement at this age. You are doing the right things...just travel and enjoy life because this is the best time of life. Vietnam ditched the fiscal communism with "Doi Moi" back in 1986, North Korea didn't, with the exception of legalizing the black market afaik. Also trade between US and VN was opened in the 1990s, and since then many countries like Japan, Korea, China, etc, have been investing in Vietnam.

Alison Linh, Where do you live now? I’m doing good in the States but I wish I could be in VN right now. Just out of curiosity, are you mixed because of your last name!?
@AlisonLinh4 жыл бұрын
Tuan Le Currently living in Seattle right now. I love it here as well, but a part of me will always call Vietnam my home. Yes, I am mixed. My mother is Vietnamese. :)

Alison Linh, I could see that beautifully innocence Eastern looks of you. I was going to Da Nang for a cousin’s wedding and visit my grandparents in June but it changed. I was hoping to go back soon and adventure the Ha Giang’s loop.

Nice Alison, great to hear you teach English there. As I said to you before I'm going to Vietnam in spring I think. I'm also an English teacher in Georgia, (the country next to Russia, not the state, haha), I've been teaching English here in the Georgian public schools in the villages, incredible experience! Never taught online though. And actually I'm going to Vietnam for the culture, the people, the food and of course want to go to the beaches in Da Nang! I'm fully retired now(other than having some private lessons with University students in Tbilisi, where I live now). Anyway, I see Da Nang is very mellow, very cool, that's what I'm looking for at this stage of my life, so thanks, cheers once again for you videos! Simple, nice, mellow and easy to watch and enjoy! All the Best to you and Jake! Ken

Kenneth Monette Wow, sounds like you're going all over the place! I think you'll love Vietnam. I hope you have an amazing trip and safe travels! :)

Thanks Alison, I think I'll love it there as well, we'll see! I've been to many places, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Spain, Netherlands, Iceland, just to name a few....here is a link for beer commercial I did recently here in Tbilisi, called 'Old Irish' a new beer by Natakhtari Beer here, in it that's me singing or should I say 'moaning' few lines from the song 'Nothing Compares to U', then after barman pours beer you can see me toasting with other guys to the beer, I'm wearing purple plaid shirt, goatee and not much hair, haha....it's only 40 seconds long but took hours to film cause the barman, my friend Willem can't sing, and the Georgian guys around me couldn't remember the four lines we had to sing, plus different camera angles, etc., was fun to do though and since this commercial won awards I've done four others and also starred as the only foreigner in a Georgian movie, not much money, but a lot of fun working with TV, movie people, here's the link, enjoy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3m8pXerr8R-nKs

Were the beach scenes at China Beach by any chance? I was in Vietnam during the war in the Navy and was at Camp Tien Shau which I guess is no longer there. If you know could you let me know.

Hi Alison! New subscriber here :) I'll be going to Vietnam in August, so for me your videos are really awesome. Do you prefer Danang over HMC? Thanks a lot for posting your videos!

Raul Peixoto Hi Raul! Happy to see my videos are helpful! I honestly think I liked Da Nang better. Mostly because of the beach and lack of traffic. If I were to move back, I would spend a few more months in Da Nang. :)
