When Katie mentioned how people don’t appreciate the cheerleaders- I totally feel for her. I was on drill team for my highschool and always dealing with that & hearing rude comments from people about our dance team was so hard to deal with. Just working hard to blow those people away anyways with our performances made it extra rewarding in the end though!

it's probably female-specific. The political climate in recent years was first one of starting to finally empower women, then a huge uprising of backlash including women-hating that went so far it could even be called a war on women, YMMV. It's been socially acceptable for people to hate women for thousands of years.

Katie. I totally get how you feel. I felt the cheerleaders were unappreciated and it never sat well with me. That's why I went out of my way to stop them all in the halls or in class to offer my support before games and competition. I couldn't be a cheerleader for real because my disabilities precluded me to do what was required (and keep in mind this was all 20 years ago when things were not anywhere near as accepting) so I wanted to be their Cheerleader instead.

I'm glad to see that too. I think a part of is that popular music isn't changing and developing as fast as it used to... in the 90s, the music from 20 years earlier sounded ancient and nothing remotely close to what was new at the time. but today, 20 year old music isn't -that- different from modern songs, and singers like Pink and Alicia Keys have remained popular the entire time

Katie is correct Cheerleaders aren't appreciated like they should be. Happy Birthday to Makayla Noble. She's a Cheerleader from Texas who had a Tumbling Accident on September 21st, 2021 and is paralyzed. Today (October 13th) is her 17th Birthday if you haven't seen her story she's a true fighter.

I remember Homecoming my Freshman year, it was the only time it was the weekend of Halloween and so everyone dressed up. I had my face and arms painted in polka dots of my school colors like I had a school spirit version of the Measles. It took forever to wash it all off. So worth it though.

My high school's pep rallies were outdoors and it was awful. Nobody pays attention cause its outside in the sun. And you can't get loud and rowdy cause the noise floats away. I was the only one all in. I was the only one who cheered with the cheerleaders when directed. It was deflating to feel like the only one with school spirit (which wasn't the case...being outdoors made a huge difference negatively). A pep rally needs to be indoors or what's the point.

Depends on the state in the USA. It isnt consistent. In some places, you can drive alone at 14 (on a provisional farm license), and in some states you don't get full driving privileges until 17.

There were sooo many sexist things I heard about occurring in my high school before I graduated. It was Astonishing to hear all of it. Cheerleaders are required to make posters and give gifts to them and got nothing back in return. The names for these things are disgusting too

Agreed my school’s cheer team only gets thanked at the home games and have to decorate our houses but I always tell them thank you and I will always support them just as much as my own teammates along with our other high school i connected with one of the sophomore cheerleaders from the other high school! She’s been a absolutely wonderful friend!!! I have slight feelings for her but I am going to wait to tell her because I want her to know that it’s her choice if she wants to be with me or not we will always be friends I’m a senior though!

it's the culture. I see so many men striving to be cool and give as little as possible while taking taking taking and expecting his girl to be supportive, giving and caring. It's super unfair and can feel degrading to women who have no life other than supporting their man because he takes all her energy if you let him.
