This video pretty much sums up comments I've made on a couple of Chris's newer videos regarding people like him being the unsung heroes of the haulage industry, just as essential as any driver, fork truck driver, director, manager, traffic operator, accountant, blah yada, yet not always as recognised and appreciated. Having occupied hard shoulders far too many times in similar circumstances as a driver, I'm with Chris and XT 71! It's bloody scary!! You don't realise it as you cruise past in your warm cab at 56mph in the wind and rain whilst rocking the crap out of the lorry on the hard shoulder and covering it, the mechanic and driver in filthy spray from 6 axles worth of tyres..... Nor the noise and constant awareness that some twat might get distracted by the absolute necessity to reply to that text message about having a few beers the following weekend immediately and unbelievably veer off to the left...... Unless I was instructed otherwise by the mechanic, at a breakdown I always (safely!) "hovered" in the hope that I could be of help in some way, even if it was just sharing the weather and holding a torch, but also that I might learn something for future reference... I always carried a reasonable toolkit and loads of spares, especially as an owner driver, and managed to get out of strife plenty of times as a result of knowledge I picked up along the way by watching, listening and learning. All the mechanics I met over the years were incredibly generous and informative when sharing their knowledge and experience with me, and Chris is keeping up the whole tradition whilst providing really entertaining and enjoyable footage :-) Cheers

Had the old broken compressor befor on a Renault recovery truck . So got the bed down put my van on the back. Started the compressor and ran a hose down on the the airdryer. Even put the recovered car on to the spec.. Got it all the way back . Always think out side the box

💯 agree Chris, I done it for about 10 years on fleet and dealership, many a temporary repair to get it moving, now I do it with trains, 9/10 it’s a case of short the relay out and go with it, once had an bag go on a class 170 DMU, pipe clamped and back to depot 😉, here’s a top tip get a spray flap as a slide under board, fkn ideal for skidding about underneath wagons

Know exactly how you feel 1 off the first break downs I did was a fan belt on a stralis on the wood head. I can happily say that shit me up 🤣 and just a top tip with the older stralis. If it gets switched off in gear and you build the air up with the compressor and it won't go in to natural you have to short the starter out and it will throw it in to neutral 👍

Maybe air jacks and battery rotation need to be on your list to get/do 🤣. I generally find the struggle is with me forgetting to of brought something/done something. Getting the old bill to close the lane was sound advice, our spare wheels were mounted on the OS. Keep safe out there and let the struggle continue.
@mondodaftasabrush2 жыл бұрын
Oh I have done some risky / dodgy stuff just to get back on road in my day you took a spare bus out and get abuse from 50+ disgruntled passengers before you got the spanners out then sort the knacker to get you back to depot lot of forward thinking of parts you may need. emery tape and grease ... oh the joys of doing something different everyday

Your hi vi jacket in life expired, it's normally a combination of failures which cause accidents poor PPE being one of them. The manufacturers of the reflective tape put a restriction on the numbers of times the item ca be washed before replacement is required.
@brianwebb1912 жыл бұрын
No PPE will stop 44 ton from hiting you up the arse, if you are there to repair it ?? chances you are under the vehicle for a start, Not standing at the back showing of your NEW PPE if you are whats the point of you being there to start with ?? looking like a canary lol

Might sound daft mate but if your working like that on a motorway put some cones out behind you, will give you a early warning if something starts wandering they skittle them and you will hear them. I got sent on a two day course for roadside working, was a bit of a eye opener I can tell ya. I’ve also installed flashing red lights in the rear clusters on my van, not strictly allowed but feck it, my life is important. Fortunately our company policy is no getting under the vehicle roadside so it gets dragged home. 💯 agree with you thou, don’t take unnecessary risks!
@brianwebb1912 жыл бұрын
What good will plastic cones do then ? Stop 44 ton lol You will not hear fuck all untill the bang ? take it you have never work on a vehicle parked on the hard shoulder because its fucking scary , if something is going to hit you , the driver is not fully awake for a start ?
