Plus adding to the fact you have 4 kids I don’t know how you do it. I’m currently a UPS driver for 6 years, I make 40+ an hour with great benefits but I’m beginning to hate the job. We sold our house in south Florida, built our dream house on an acre of land. I’m still working in south FL and go visit my wife and kids every couple of weeks and I’m staying in my parents spare bedroom while I’m in FL(I can’t transfer with UPS bc the closest Hub is a hour and half way). Our plan is to try and pay the rest of the mortgage off and be debt free. I’m 34 and still have another 25 plus years to work before retirement, and I’m still trying to find my purpose in life. I love the freedom that my job gives me and meeting all the people I do on my route. Anyways, I recently walked into a Waste Pro to see if they were Hiring and after talking to the manager he really seemed like he wanted me to apply. Starting rate was 20 bucks an hour and he said after 9 months they would send me to a class to get my CDL. Could you tell me about the negative parts of being a garbage man? You seem like a positive guy so that might be hard but I would just like to get your perspective on it.. maybe a future video 👍

I live in a court with 6 triplex's and very hard to do a complete round without having to forward/reverse a dozen times. It used to take each different truck about 5-8 minutes to get the cans dumped, but I make it a point to have them lined up in a way that makes it easy for them to collect. But 90% of the time I just help them but moving the bin to the arm move away grab another and by the time its done dumping and setting it back I am ready to load the arm with another. Now it takes each truck with 6 bins from 5-8 minute down to 2-3 minutes in the court. had one truck blow a hydraulic line and fluid started leaking everywhere, maintenance crew wasn't at the shop for another 35 minutes so I grabbed a shove and helped him put absorbent(basically cat litter) down and spread out while we waited. I know it's not smart to be doing that, but I just don't stand near or under the arm while it's moving and wait to grab and put another bin in the claw when it's fully retracted back to the truck. Haven't missed a day in a year and a half and they actually have made it a point to hit my court first instead of next to last in my area which I appreciate. You all have a really cool job, and if I wasn't 43yrs old fighting off prostate cancer and have suffered 2 T.I.A(mini strokes) and 1 actual stroke, I would try and get hired at Republic Services(in my area) to do side loading trash pickup.

This looks much easier than hauling groceries for ALDI. We used to load the pallets into the trailer by ourselves, but now the distribution personnel does it, so that saves us 2 hours a day. But they load incorrectly, just putting pallets inside the trailer. There's an art to loading so it does NOT spill for the driver, but they don't care. Once we get to the store, the 1 pallet jack meant for us to use are not fully charged, as the store employees love using them, when there's 3 other pallet jacks for them to use. So we gotta use these 3 other pallets jacks, which lengthens your unload time, which we don't really get paid for. You could file a claim for the extra hours, but they rarely pay those claims. Each pallet is wrapped only once, to save plastic wrap & time, which equates to $$$$$. If you take a turn too fast in any turn, there goes that pallet, spilling all over inside the trailer.

A marvelous video! Ive been enthusiastic about the industry since I can remmeber and have been an observer of the industry for as long as I can remember, which led to me eventually documenting trucks/routes for the internet lol. It is cool to see the republic trucks/operations from this property, are there any residential operations at that yard and what kind of side loaders do they use? Here in Las Vegas/Henderson NV Republic runs a 24 hour operation due to the roll off compactors they service at the casinos and over top bins. The side loaders are my favorite though. I have heard of safes being thrown out and have witnessed some collectors trying to crack one open years back. I also was recently told about someone that snuck a car in a roll off container and how it came out at the transfer station when the truck was dumping. It is very fun seeing how routes and such are sequenced and exploring new areas not knowing what you will find haha. I've seen lots of big residential routes for drivers with lots of backing and new areas being built so more stops being added. It is honestly very cool seeing how you guys do your job and tackle the day to get it all done. I would love to see more content. With the weather here in NV ive learned about the term 'locking up' due to the intense heat and got to learn about the regimine drivers use to stay hydrated. It is a tough job and I am glad it compensates well and i appreciate the hard work you all do each and everyday.
@TrashyButClassy17768 ай бұрын
Yo my brother! I’ve actually watched a lot of your videos I love them! There is residential here at our yard but we don’t have any side loads trucks. All the residential is either through a rear load truck or what’s called a curotto truck. That’s so interesting with the hours of Vegas! I’ve always wondered how they do it. I’m curious about Arizona too! That’s funny you say that about safes. I actually found a safe and cracked it open about 10 years and found a lot of money in it! I have about 7 hours of footage from a POV perspective that I have to go through and upload I’ll make sure I get on it soon! Thank you for the kind words brother take care.

I have a interview with Republic for a driver trainee position on Wednesday. I’m just wondering how you make 100k or more because after training I would only be at 22 an hour and even with like 10 hours of overtime a week there’s no way I’m even grossing 50k in a year I could only assume it’s because of what state and city pays better and or it looks like your on the commercial front load position as well as how long you have been with the company. I would be doing a residential route if I get the job.
@TrashyButClassy17766 ай бұрын
Which state are you in? That probably is what it is. Out here in Colorado the pay is a lot higher than that. When you start do your best to try and get in front load. Front load pays more

@nicholasflores4498 i worked out of the yard in phoenix off 51st and lower buckeye. I had a route two days out of the week in phoenix. Still miss that route to this day and then the other two days had a route in a neighborhood in buckeye about 30 to 40 mins from the yard. I was there a year and a half and just couldnt put up with the bs anymore. There forming a union now though so its been over a year since i left so ive been debating going back.
@justinalec871810 ай бұрын
@nicholasflores4498 even with only being there a year and some change i have so much i could say but i did 8 months in rear load with the cans being in the ground and we used to run all day and then finally after i basically threatened to quit i got put in side load and did about 9 months. But man do they work you to the bone. Im talking sun up sun down but with 14yrs im sure you know already man. Do you guys do saturdays in front load over there? I have front load experience now too and have been thinking about coming back to do front load

Very nice I’m not too familiar with the Arizona area but we were looking at Yuma. Ohhhhh yeah dude back when I first started when I was around 18-20 we would work from 6am to almost 9pm its was fucking nuts now that I think about it lol. It’s so easy out here in Colorado they have almost all routes down sized so much that it’s not a hassle to do any route.
