A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ARTIST / BEHIND THE SCENES OF A PROFESSIONAL PET PORTRAIT & WILDLIFE ARTIST

Hi everyone, welcome back to my KZbin channel. Hopefully this video will give you an insight into my typical ‘day in the life’ as a professional pet portrait and wildlife artist. Being a full time artist and running an art business isn’t just drawing unfortunately! My days vary depending on what I have to do, from commissions, tutoring, editing tutorials, filming, giving feedback, emails, content for social media, advertising/marketing, running a website shop and Etsy shop, finances, packaging orders, and about 50 postoffice trips a week! I’m so grateful and lucky to do what I love to do everyday, and I am continuing to grow my art business. Running any business requires an endless amount of motivation, self discipline and planning. It’s hard work but incredibly rewarding.
I really hope you enjoy this video as much as I loved making it. Hats off to any business owners out there! If you’re a hobby artist considering going full time, hopefully this will give you a taster of some of the main things to expect. If you’re already a full time artist, hopefully you can relate!

A day in the life of an artist -
8:00 - wake up
8:30 - go downstairs and make breakfast
9:00 - take Bella for walk
9:30 - art studio get set up
9:45 - to do list
10:00 - feedback and critique of work for my patrons
10:45 - commission / admin / editing drawing tutorials that have been previously recorded
15:30 - Etsy orders
16:00 - postoffice
16:30 - filming next parts to in depth start to finish drawing tutorials for Patreon
18:15 - edit and upload tutorials
18:30 - photograph commissioned work (pet portraits)
18:30 - go on to package the commissions
18:45 - admin, emails, messages
19:00 - bellas tea
19:15 - my tea
20:00 - back up to the studio
20:00 - continue with a different commission
21:00 - go downstairs
21:00 - emails/editing tutorials/social media
21:45 - bath and relax
10:15 - planning Patreon content or next weeks work
10:45 - bellas bedtime
23:00 - bedtime and read
23:45 - lights out

You work so hard Becca, I wish you all the best in the world, you deserve it. For me it's a new adventure, I work a 48 hour week at present as an electrical engineer. I then work 2 hours every night as a colour pencil artist. Just started my you tube channel and looking forward to running my art business full time, now starting at 69 years young. Hi Becca! You seem so efficient and organized and our work is lovely! Where did you purchase the thin black box that you used for packaging? I've searched on the internet and can't find anything quite like it.

I buy them from the tiny box company online, they are classed as ‘photography boxes’ they are brilliant as they have a lid, so it’s extra protection on the sides xx

Loved this video! And i am in awe how you can draw and film at the same time without the phone/ getting in your way? I tried recording my own art but it doesnt come out well because i also draw on a incline surface and can figure how to set it up

It is difficult filming and drawing at the same time, it takes a bit of adjusting the camera! I often hit my head on the tripod! Haha! It’s easier to record when you work flat, because you can position the camera directly above it, but when you work on an incline / drawing board, the camera ends up being in your line of vision I know what you mean! I do have it angled to the side slightly so I can still see my drawing clearly ☺️xx

Aw thank you! I’m glad you liked my video. I really like my own company, and I work best when I put a podcast on and completely zone out and focus on what I’m doing. Routines are really hard to stick to especially when you work for yourself. It’s the consistency in self discipline that’s the difficult part. Motivation comes and goes but at least we’re doing something that we love!! Do you find it lonely? What do you find is best to do when trying to stick to a daily routine? ☺️ xxx

Me too, I get through SO many audiobooks! I do get lonely sometimes though, as my previous job was working in a pub where I was talking to people all day. Honestly Becca I don't really have a set routine and I think that's why I get so unorganised, but you've inspired me to build one! xxx
