For today's video you'll be joining me for a slower day at work and seeing some of my responsibilities as an optician as well as learning what some of my coworkers do as well.

I love this!! Can you make a video about how you got this job?

I had about 1.5 years of experience when I applied to this particular job, and most of my experience came from a LensCrafters that was willing to train me despite having no optical experience. I believe these days its important to have an ABO certification when looking for an optician job, and you can prepare for this exam either in trade school or by self-teaching at home. I hope this helps!

Sorry if my comment is too old for the vid, but I was wondering what site to train for my ABO cert

Hi! I personally never got certified because I was planning to go to optometry school and had enough work experience that no one required it from me. Unfortunately, I think that is less common now. I know that there are certain companies, such as LensCrafters that may offer training resources and reimburse you for getting ABO certified. I don't personally have any experience with ABO certification training websites, but I have heard very good things about Optical Nerd, OpticianWorks, and uUniversity. Good luck on your journey to certification!

I'm not 100% sure about the international job application process, I'm so sorry.

Have you considered being a virtual assistance for hello rache? There are a lot of optometrists who hire from that company and your optician background would make you a big asset.

Do you need a degree for this?
@jayswonderfulworld4661 Жыл бұрын
It’s not required . You can be an apprentice optician for 2 years and take the exam and pass to be licensed

There are options for optician courses. But as someone else has said, it is possible to become an optician through simply passing the ABO licensing exam.

@@lovetheyedocis that just in your state or in general ?
@lovetheyedoc Жыл бұрын
@@kina0093781 Only 22 states require a license. Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia or Washington (according to OpticianWorks website). The other 28 do not require ABO certification, so maybe those focus more on experience and training on the job.

Super late, but honestly you just have to focus on one thing at a time. Just remember to let whoever is waiting know that you'll be with them as soon as you can and focus on who's in front of you. If you have a chance to break away (if they're looking at glasses or get called back for their eye exam) go ahead and start on the next person with that extra time.
