I lived in Brunswick Maine for two years while my brother was stationed there. It was an interesting change for this native Floridian. I tried to learn how to drive in the snow and I almost.made it except for the light pole I hit near the pub I worked at called the Thirsty Dolphin. It was a fun time living there and I want to go back to visit again. I left there on my way back to the University of Florida in Gainesville FL when I got an ironic surprise. On the University campus I saw a friend who I had just seen in Brunswick a couple of days before I left town. I asked him what he was doing there? Stalking me or something? He said that he had a little side business there aside from working on campus. So that evening my roommate and I visited his little house tucked away from the city and he had about two rooms growing weed with the fluorescent lights and the whole thing. We tried his agriculture and it completely blew our minds. Very interesting coincidence. Now I had my first connection and he had left the same town of Brunswick Maine as me. Life is funny.

@@LovesNeverEnding Hi Jennifer, for me they dont compare at all. I much prefer Maine. I love how Maine has a laidback vibe, where as the UK is very fastpaced. Everything is small and crammed together. What I loved about Maine was the weather as I love 4 seasons, especially winter. I also loved the wildlife. There was nothing more relaxing than sitting out by a fire listening to the loons and peepers, under a dark stary sky, with fire flies dancing around. We have none of this in the UK - there is no sounds of nature. Plus we have so many lights everywhere that we never get to see dark skies unless we go out to the country and even there, the lights are taking over. I lived in North Windham in the woods by Little Sebago Lake and I visited Brunswick regular. I played in a bagpipe and drum band and we done gigs in a few of the bars there. In a nutshell, the UK is very modern where Maine is still very old fashioned in a way. I love old fashioned and id move back to Maine today if I could! 😊

Nice to see a small college town in different seasons. When I was a camp counselor in Belgrade Lakes, ME, one of the counselors attended Bowdoin, so I went to Brunswick a few times over 5 summers, but that was several years ago. Have not been back for about 15. Shows off the community spirit of the town well!

Umm... Brunswick also has 2 small/independent movie theaters, a world class art museum, 3 small/independent record stores, a huge historic mill filled to the brim with artists, an amazing year-round farmers market, pianos in the street, live free outdoor music series all summer, and a former naval base converted for town use. So... no, not just another college town.

It might have once been a good place to live, but it isn't anymore. I lived there while I was stationed at the Navy Base, but after they lost revenue from the Navy, taxes went up. The school system also started to lack because of the loss of the revenue the Navy provided. Some businesses also left the area. It is also run (ruined) by Liberal Democrats that are in control of the local government.

@@bigcolt5256 I was a camp counselor in the Belgrade Lakes region for the summers of 1969-1973, and I think it was one of the first two summers, while visiting Bowdoin, that this Dairy Queen-like place (not a franchise, but a locally owned place) had a sign out front " LBJ Ate Here". It was likely part of his 1964 campaign for president, but I do not think the year was specified. (I personally despised Johnson, so it would not have been an enticement for me to eat there, but my friend, Andy and I, did get an ice cream there on that warm summer day).

@@bigcolt5256 There were many who did back in that 1964-68 period. However, I have read much, including Barr McClellan's book, which details the 8 murders he ordered (including his own sister on Christmas morning), not to mention his role in covering up the JFK assassination's real perpetrators. The Kennedys sure hated him, but put him on the 1960 ticket for pure political purposes (and JFK was going to remove him from the '64 ticket due to his 2 scandals - Bobby Baker & Billy Sol Estes). He was falsely given credit for the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act, but LBJ was no fan of black people, and his own Dems opposed both laws. It was Everett Dirksen - an ILL GOP, who rallied all the GOP forces to pass the bills over the Nays from many Dems (mostly southern Dixiecrats). As a human, LBJ was the worst man ever elected. He was a power broker, nonetheless. I did not know all that back in 1969-70, but had a visceral dislike for him. My later reading just confirmed my gut instinct was accurate!

Was stationed in Brunswick from '88 - '92. I have always wanted to move back there when I retire. I am appalled to see what is happening with the illegal immigrants that are being flown/bussed to Portland. I believe Freeport is receiving illegal immigrants, as well. Is it also the intention of Brunswick to house those that wish to live here illegally? I welcome diversity. But, you have to follow the law. For what other reason do military personnel risk their lives every day?
