I was doing my AP Chem homework while watching this vlog, and when the chemistry professor was talking about nonpolar covalent bonds, it was the exact topic I was doing my homework on #chemistryoverload

this is a really great video! i was wondering how big are intro class sizes at usc (such as bio, chem, orgo) and how are the grading curves for these classes compared to brown?
@MayGao6 жыл бұрын
Alekhya Gurram The lectures I sat in on were generally slightly smaller (150-200 ppl?) than Brown’s (200-300), possibly bc USC has honors and non-honors sections. I don’t think class size makes a huge difference for lectures tbh! Ppl usually choose their preferred professor regardless of the class size (over another professor with a much smaller class size).

lol i used to be really into brown but recently ive gotten more into usc so when i saw this i was like GIRL wtf bc you literally do both lmao. do you prefer the surroundings of usc or brown? (in terms of shopping, weather, atmosphere, etc.)
@MayGao6 жыл бұрын
ふらん visit both campuses if you can! I think location and safety are a bigger deal to me than weather. East coast gets cold but it’s definitely not unbearable and I like experiencing seasons for once lol, just make sure there are institutions/resources nearby that cater to your interests (ie hospitals, labs, state house/policy-related opportunities, etc.)

i don't know much about brown, but in terms of usc, it's in the city, so there's obviously a lot to do. for me, i prefer the city environment (high key because i love whole foods jk), so usc is a great fit for me for social life. the weather is obviously great year round, so campus is bustling all the time with people studying outside, which i think is different than east coast schools. but like may said, you should visit both campuses to see what you like!

How is discussion different from lecture besides the size?
@WendyGonzalezmed6 жыл бұрын
Nancy D hey Nancy I go to Brown too! I’m a junior. I took Orgo 1 and don’t remember having a discussion section! There was a problem solving section that was option and I didn’t go lol. However in other classes I’ve taken like bio classes and humanities classes discussion sections are usually run by TAs who are summarizing the important stuff OR the students ARE the ones talking and bouncing around ideas about concepts talked about in class! Does that make sense? Let me know if not I can explain further :)

how were you able to just join her classes?
@lonelydolla6 жыл бұрын
typically at larger universities they don't mind if you bring guests to class and if it's a large lecture they sometimes don't even notice.
@WendyGonzalezmed6 жыл бұрын
I second what Olivia said ! Even small classes just send the prof an email and they love people coming to class usually 🤗🤗🤗 im a third year at brown and I’ve seen people coming to class a lot :D
