for some reason, watching this video gave me a lot of respect for you and how difficult it must be to keep up such a routine far from home. I guess what stuck out for me was the fact that your "day in the life" vlog was actually focusing you doing actual, human work, and not narcistically showing a fake world like so many others

Software engineers work way harder than most people. They are just more honest. Who do you thing built Google maps, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Tesla self driving capabilities? Lazy software engineers or super hard working PhD students / gradates 😉

So I'm a software developer in a large infrastructure company and my day looks more like doing nothing because most tasks are solved in a few minutes. I would say that if you have a lot of experience in what you do, you can compress your development and operation time a lot. When you're in the learning phase, your day is full of everything.
@ramielkady9382 жыл бұрын
@@thenilusss4911 Task completion time is not always indicative of value. How long does it take a great physician to diagnose illness and prescribe drugs? A few minutes ... How long does it take for him to have the necessary experience? Years. Is there value in those few minutes of illness diagnosis and drug prescription? Tremendous value.

Your day as a PhD student seems a lot like mine. I'm a web developer, and I do a lot of the same stuff as you, lol. My day is like such though: 1. wake up to an alarm, fall asleep several times, and until it's about 5 minutes until time for stand up at 9:30am. I need to fix this, I know :(. but I work remotely for now and it's hard for me to get going in the mornings. 2. finally get on the computer or call in to stand up, and let them know what I plan on doing for the day. This lasts about 15 minutes on average. 3. Depending on the day I'll follow standup with a meeting until 10am, or if not then I'll code until about 12pm. 4. Sometimes, I'll take a break to eat some lunch, but some times I just keep on working, lol. 5. code or have meetings from 1pm to 5:30pm. 6. I try to walk my dogs every day for about 30 minutes at 5:30ish. 7. I come back and sometimes I'll keep working or I'll get another mean and then keep working as I'm in charge of making important stuff! 8. I usually wind down for bed doing exactly what you did (watching videos on my phone), and I'm typically asleep around 1:30am - 2:00am.
