A day out in Shimokitazawa, an area of Tokyo filled with countless thrift stores, cafes, and bars. This district has an awesome combination of modern architecture and the narrow grungy streets of old Tokyo. There's something here for everyone so definitely come check it out on your next trip to Tokyo!

YOU are the hidden gem of KZbin. I’ve been watching videos about Japan constantly for the last weeks (planning upcoming trip) and your video is by far the most engaging and beautiful I’ve seen. Thank you for showing us places not so obvious.

yes indeed! just look at Takeshita-dōri and environs over the last 20 years to see where Shimo and other 'trendy' spots are heading..... but then, the quirky and the creative will pop up somewhere else, so.... (⌒▽⌒)

Yes it has but not in such a negative way. Been living in japan for a while, it’s nothing compared to the gentrification of its sister city and my hometown of NYC. I couldn’t even recognize my city last year between all the hipsters, unaffordable housing, tall glass buildings that look like your planet krypton, the dead nightlife, overpriced restaurants and take out deli’s where you are now forced to tip with extra tax added as well, $8-$9 Doughnuts (yes for one hipster gourmet doughnut), and way overpriced used clothing stores where the staff thinks they are working at Agnes B or Yoji Yamamoto. I have no desire to ever return, Tokyo suits me fine I’ll vacation in Europe next time.

Dude, thank you for this tip. My wife and I are3 wrapping up a trip in Tokyo and had a hard time finding treats/souvenirs to bring home. We went to Shimo today and scored heavy vintage swag. The town was lovely and we had one of most pleasant days including a great curry soup lunch. You rock and really added to our experience. John and Liliana

Thanks for reviving memories of going there! We walked past the Thai place and thought it looked interesting 😊 Shimokitazawa is easily a place you can spend a whole day shopping. Only problem was-how feral the public toilets were! I was surprised and horrified. I find that Japan tends to not have enough public toilets for their population. Here in Australia there’s always plenty 😅 enjoy your time in Japan. I can’t wait to live there again

Shimokitazawa is such a cool place to spend a day for sure! Yeahhh, public toilets can definitely be a hit or miss there but in the newer areas, they were quite nice! Thank you! It's been such a blessing to have a more extended period of time here. I hope you get the chance to live here again!

Thanks man! Ayyy more ACR heads. Nubian Tokyo has some! I also saw some in thrift stores too in Omotesando (Brand Collect, Kindal) and actually in this video I saw a Sacai x Acronym cropped jacket in Trefacstyle. You'll find it here and there but it's definitely not common here considering how expensive it is after import.

Would you recommend this neighborhood for living for foreigners planning a long term stay? I’m a middle aged fashionable New Yorker that doesn’t mind living or commuting 30 minutes or so outside the city center and likes a not so touristy local scene. Thank you.
@Jermspang
@Jermspang 3 ай бұрын
Take my word with a grain of salt as I've never lived there but I've heard good things! A little ways away is Kichijoji which is similar in vibe and I have some friends who live there and they really enjoy it! If you're looking for nice cafes, a pretty lively bar scene, and fashion you can't go wrong here.
