Anxiety creeps in at the worst times and makes no exceptions. I'm glad you found solace in talking about it and in meditation. Never apologise for talking to us or for putting up a chill vlog where all you do is read. We love you and we love being able to share little snippets of your life with you. Thanks for this video, Hannah

I started using an app called Forest for reading. You set a timer and it starts to grow a little tree! It puts your phone onto airplane mode. If you try to go to social media it kills the tree. So every time you do it, you grow a new tree and eventually you will have a forest. There are different types of trees you can grow, and there are seasonal ones. I believe I got it from another booktuber too

I honestly got emotional when you talked about how reading helps with your mental health because I feel the same way. Reading has been such a special way for me to escape into a different world and to be outside of my own head. Last year was a hard one for me and the peak of my anxiety and depression, but since discovering booktube about six months ago, I was able to find channels like yours, and life has been getting better ever since💕💕✨

Thank you for filming and putting up this vlog. Woke up from a nightmare and ended up taking the opportunity to come watch this because I didn’t have time to during the day. Made me feel less alone! I feel a lot better. I think you’ve also put me in the mood to read a little bit before going back to sleep! Also I’m amazed at yours and people’s reading speeds. I read so slowly in comparison! I would barely be able to read 200 pages in a day (if I even could), let alone in a couple hours. lol Oh, PS: I know the strugglllle of seeming fine when I’m SO not fine. I get outwardly shut down and into a freeze response from being so triggered, and people think I’m just super calm when really I’m like dying inside. Makes it really hard to get help and get taken seriously! ❤️ Good reminder not to take things at face value all the time.

I loved this! And it was so generous of you to share the behind the scenes parts of your day. So many of us struggle with anxiety or some other difficult mental health challenge, and it really does help to share it with one another. What helps me most with my anxiety is meditation (favorite app is HeadSpace), walking, and limiting distractions. The extra stimulus of distractions, especially things like socialmedia can be really taxing. So muting my phone, muting my notifications, maybe even turning my phone off if I'm being compulsive about reaching for it - it is literally a sanity saver.

I have had sever anxiety for about two years now and depression for a lot longer and I've recently decided to buy and read more books and I can honestly say that I wish I did this a long time ago. Reading has made me feel so much better and if I did this way before I don't think I'd have to be going to therapy like I am atm. Discovering your channel has honestly helped a lot, I'm able to discover new books that help me distract myself from my mental health. So thank you for having this amazing channel xx

1, I have the astonishing color of after & cannot wait to read it! 2, THANK YOU so much for opening up about your anxiety. You are not alone. I deal with stress, anxiety & depression a lot but it’s been horrible this year. I’m usually so good at hiding it from everyone but again, this year i haven’t been doing a good job with that. I’m wearing my emotions on my sleeve most days. I’ve started doing yoga, regular massage, & just putting myself first & it’s seemed to help most days. Just knowing it’s ok to have a day where I literally don’t have to do anything but curl up & read or relax helps. Hang in there girl, you have a ton of people supporting you & im sure a lot that share your struggles. ❤️

I was having a very bad anxiety attack a few weeks ago (like one of the worst I have had in months) and I couldn’t focus on anything. I’m Christian so usually praying and reading my bible help but this time the attack was really bad. One thing that really helped me was drinking tea (calming teas like hibiscus and sleepytime) and just meditating. I’m sorry you went through that but I’m happy that you are comfortable enough to share your struggles with us.

The whole smiling thing whilst suffering is the same with me. My therapist noted that whilst talking to her about personal stuff and having constant one on one eye contact with her I would have a smile plastered on my face. Like as though of I was talking about stuff without smiling I'd break down-its kind of one of those automatic things that happen I guess. So yeah I can relate to what you're going through *hugs* 😘😘

I really hope you're doing okay! It's definitely ok to be honest and I don't judge you for smiling through it. I do the same thing. College was the most stressful time of my life. I basically locked myself in my room and hardly attended class and didn't even go out to meet friends or eat out or shop. I went home on the weekend to visit my parents, do laundry and get groceries. I ended up losing a lot of weight and dropping out eventually. I believe you can get through this no matter what. :) Love your honesty and I always try to be the same.

OMG. It definitely helped me feel less alone when you mentioned your anxiety. I've been too anxious to leave the house very much lately, except for school and a couple of errands here and there. Mostly I've been staying home, hiding in my room and reading. Like I'm really relieved that you're sharing your experiences. You are so wonderful, I absolutely adore your videos. Thank you for being so open and honest. Also, I hope that this doesn't sound creepy, but I think we live in the same area because you mentioned going to a book signing that is relatively close to where I live a while back. I like in Los Altos. I know this is a weird bit of info to share on the internet. But I just wanted you to know that you're not alone. I don't know if this is reassuring or just a weird bit of info to share with somebody??? Anyway, I hope that you feel better soon and that you have a wonderful day. I really need to pick up The Astonishing Color of After. I'm afraid that I'll cry the whole time, though. And books written in poems are my jam. I need to check out both books.

love love love this vlog. I didn’t even look at the timestamp before I started so it felt like I was just having a really chill day of reading at home with a friend :’) I’m so excited that you read The Poet X! I just finished it last night in one straight sitting and it hit me so hard. I’m glad there’s more Latinx representation in books but ones with Dominican/Puerto Rican/other Caribbean characters always hit me the hardest because I relate to them the most, my family being Puerto Rican. there aren’t as many of those in YA. everything about that book was amazing and I immediately passed it on to my mom because I know she’ll love it even more 💓 I also love that you shared those moments in your anxiety with us. I know it’s really hard - I’ve been super anxious the past three weeks and it’s annoying to have your brain suddenly be like “fear!!!!!!” for no reason - but it really does help to know you’re not alone. including it in the video really means a lot; it not only felt like I was chilling at home with a friend, but like I was watching one of my own reading days play out. thank you so much for sharing it with us!!! 🌟✨💞

I'm actually currently reading The Astonishing Color of After and it's amazing! I think I'm going to finish it this weekend. I wanted to read it in 2020 specifically because in quarantine in spring, I went for walks a lot at a local park, and there's a little free library there, and I had given some books to it before and saw a hardcover copy of it in extremely good condition, like new, and I picked it up, so it just felt so fitting that I read it this year! I read The Poet X in July of this year and loved it so much, it is high on my favorites this year and is an all time favorite. You should definitely listen to the audiobook because Elizabeth Acevedo narrates it and she has a spoken word background so it's just incredible. You are so strong and so much more than your anxiety, and it's awesome that you are open to sharing hard times.

I know what you mean about anxiety. Sometimes it just comes around--for no reason, even--and it's just equal parts frustrating and even MORE anxiety-inducing. And when it gets particularly bad, it makes concentrating on normal tasks horribly difficult. Unfortunately, my anxiety can only be managed with medication, so I hope that what you do in this video will help for any anxiety in the coming days.

I started crying watching you crying in fast-motion! That's literally all it takes for me to cry. I got The Astonishing Color of After and Emergency Contact last week and I'm so excited to read it!! I haven't read the book but I just took the quiz to figure out which Maji Clan I would be in and I got the Burner Clan. A lot of those questions I had a hard time deciding on, so it'd be interesting to retake it after I read the book or when I start the book.

I appreciate that you made this video, because I'm actually dealing with a strong situation with my family and I just feel so betrayed in every sense, but I could relax a bit with your words and knowing that we can actually deal with this. 🙈💕

YAY! Loved how long this was. Not that you had anxiety though - it admittedly gave me anxiety too. I have the poet x already but haven't started it, and have been meaning to add the astonishing color of after to my collection. You gave me a reason to start on one. I need to finish reading Mists of the Serengeti first though. I'm more than halfway with that one.

Now I know that I don't know what kind of anxiety you have, but I just want to say that you go girl for going out after food alone, I would never be able to do that if I was anxious. I'm so proud of you and you are doing amazingly!

Ah the timing of your vlog!! I just finished The Astonishing Color of After like an hour ago, and the end of the book had me in tears because there was a part that felt like it was taken from my life/something I experienced recently...the way it was written sort of freaked me out - like the author put my confusing thoughts into such beautiful words...if that makes sense?! Thanks for sharing your experience reading it

Hannah, I really wish I could give you a hug, and I wish I knew the right words of comfort. I hope you slept well and are feeling better now. I know exactly how frightening it can be when your mind keeps tormenting you, and how hard it is to make it stop. Please just know that you are important and you are loved. No matter what, hold on to that.
