Jak miło słyszeć,że jako dziecko słuchał naszego wielkiego kompozytora FRYDERÝKA CHOPINA. W Balu Maskowym Verdi'ego śpiewał z naszym tenorem Piotrem Beczałą/Metropolitan O pera/.Żal ogromny , że już nie zaśpiewa na żywo. REST IN PEACE , DIMA!

I have a 2 page reaction - no room here! At the matinee, he was not at his best vocally; but after the intermission he was great! His acting dominated the production, which was styled after Goya. The revolving stage kept the action moving. After he loses Leonora, he has this nasty swagger that is so slow, it looks like his insides are smashed and he is containing the pain. While he comes across as pure, latent, thwarted viciousness, your heart still goes out to him, he is so clearly raw & hurt.

In the future days, I'll post his bio focused on his private life (or the little we know about it) to my blog. As for the nose, he said in an interview it was broken several times, last time in a pub brawl in Venice in 1991 or so. Nowadays he runs and swims.

come to Italy, and sing at the Regio di Parma, Dmitri, and you'll eat the pelmeni of the area of Parma and Piacenza...they are definitely the best of the world

Sure. Just compare La donna e mobile and Cortigiani! I suspect that the composers gave some fun arias to the tenor to please the people, and some serious and deep arias and character development to the baritone. Verdi himself was a baritone!

Certainly. In many of his operas, the relationship between the father and his daughter plays an important, if not the most important, role. Let's not forget about Simon Boccanegra! BUT, there are no great *tenor* arias in Boccanegra, are there? ;-)
