The life skills that are explained here are ones that we ALL would benefit from, regardless of our paths in life. I wish that I’d known this so much sooner in my own life. I am so impressed by your dedication, and of the clarity of the reality of how vital it is to have a team surrounding you, working as one towards your goals. That’s impressive, and I do see how the US gives its elite skaters a level of support that others in other places in the world often have no access to. To me it’s a stark contrast between nurturing and helping to enable skaters towards the achievement of long term life goals, and what I see going on in Russia with young teen female singles skaters, who are fast tracked to medals while taking advantage of their youth and naivety, to max out on points, but not on true and complete skating, and often at the risk of their health and wellbeing, treating them as though they were worthy of only a season or two of competitive skating, while clearly viewing them as disposable. What a stark contrast in attitudes by the states (countries) and skating federations. I now often turn the song off when these young girls skate, which quickly makes it obvious that they could be skating to any music, so formulaic is their skating. I now refer to many of them as “Eteri-bots” because of this. I can barely tell one from another. I’m so grateful to be able to watch skating that is an expression of the individuality of skaters, as well as the the result of their own true love of and compassion for the sport..
