You always inspire me because you take the sort of photo's that catch my interest; they're not trying to be epic, they're just beautifully composed and balanced. They legitamise my own uncluttered viewpoint ... stand in the right place, make the image simple, check your settings, press the shutter button. Looking forwards to the next one.

Tom, I really have to disagree with your expectation of the images "not being anything special" my feeling is that at least 6 to 8 of these photos are really special. My favorite has to be the close-up of the door with the shadows beside it. When I saw the scene and the light I could tell them something there but I didn't think it would look as good as it did when you took it. Great video again! I always look forward to your videos 😊

Having just got hold of a YashicaMat 124G I’ve just come across this video. Spent all my childhood hols in that area, having grandparents in Newlyn and uncle in Lamorna and fell in love with the area. Tom, Firstly it's great to see you back on KZbin. For someone who professed not to be great on 6x6 square format, I say these images are stunning (all your work has been) but I think 6x6 might be your format, the images were stunning, contrasty and very detailed. - I only wish I could get my B&W negs looking that good. Wonderful to have you back and I look forward to more videos in the future.

Lovely to have you back. Great set of photographs as usual. Your camera, takes the Rollei Bay1 filters, if I am not mistaken. These are unfortunately rare and dear. A cheap workaround is to just stick a Cokin A filter to the lens front. A small blob of blu- tack is your friend.

Great to see another video come through. I will say, for my Yashica, I ended up changing out the focus screen for an Oleson Brightscreen. Ultimately I sold the Yashica a year later after purchasing an Autocord "Export" model, because I found the cord' screen was even slightly better than the Oleson. Even now I still struggle. I basically hold it right up by my eye and use the magnifier every shot. I've shot only two rolls this summer with it, and while I actually got some great shots, it's not easy. Looking at other 6x6 options for the same "look", I'm now leaning toward a swap of the cord' for a Fujica Super Six. I know I'll miss the ability to have the camera down low for perspective shots, but I just won't miss the focusing. The other option is the Mamiya C220/330, but they're just so big when you add a prism... Cheers!

I admit it, I didn’t shoot any film last year and was lazy shooting digital so I didn’t reap much either. Now that a new year has begun there is an opportunity to do better. The trick with square format is to frame more of the foreground into your shots. Since the square format is so tall, in a sense it is like shooting portrait orientation 35mm. Otherwise if you have too much sky in the shot you are stuck having to crop the photo from 6x6 to 6x4.5... Also I personally find that the 80mm or so lens on most TLR cameras is perfect for portraitures but is just a bit too tight for landscape. You need more like a 65mm for landscapes.

Tom! Did you know Davy Crockett Used one of these Yashica cameras during the siege of the Alamo in 1836!? Using just one roll of Kodak Eastman 5222 black and white 35mm motion picture film he shot enough sprocket holes to stave off General Santa Anna and his army of 2000 men for THIRTEEN DAYS! Thank you so much for sharing! More people need to learn about the Yashica and its rich AMERICAN history of nearly 200 years. Good to see you back, Tom. Missed your excellent shots of Cornwall. You have tempted me to dust off my old Yashica D. It is an earlier camera than yours and has the Yashikorf3.5 lens rather than the better Yashinon. It is an old triplet design so have to stop down to f8 or f11 ton get sharp pics. But is has the advantage of being very light.

Great to see you back on the hunt for shots Tom. The results are interesting from the Yashica Mat - I have a Rolleicord Vb which is very similar. Can I add just one suggestion ....... the shot of the winding gear at 5.14 - would you consider a miniscule trim at the right edge to lose the sliver of highlight on the concrete wall. Best wishes as always from South Wales.

Some brilliant compositions in here. Every one of them seemed sharp and well exposed. Did you use the phone light meter for all? Any human override based in intended outcome? I've debated buying a sekonic but if the phone meter can spot these kind of results then no sekonic needed it seems.

You have a good eye for composition so all your photos are good. I don't think it matters what kind of camera you have. In my case no kind of camera will make my compositions any good at all. Lol! I just never can quite come to terms with a TLR. They just seem a bit awkward compared with your average SLR type viewfinder for me. The lens on this one looks quite good though.
