This is exactly how the first movie ended: in the first movie, one of the wishes was for a "the drunk worker who caused the accident that broke the djinn out of his prison to NOT BE DRUNK." That single change caused the statue to not be broken and the Djinn to not be free. Imagine if someone had said: "I wish the person who brought you to this world didn't bring you to this world." It would have undone the whole trilogy.

@@julianmarco4185 The difference is the first movie she wished the guy never drank on the job. So he never slipped up. This guy wished he was never born. The Djinn twisted it his own way and just reverse aged him right then and there until he was gone. He will just be a missing person case now. So from the wishers perspective he was never born. But for everyone else hes just missing.

Besides what Yalmazkhan said I ll also add that the djinn as usual twisted the wish and basically just reverse aged him (it even shows it) to "unbirth", instead of literally fulfilling the wish and pull some time pasta. So it essentially just killed him. Also even in some pagan religions or even philosophies (eg some ancient Greece schools of thought) considered that the soul is a thing and that it predates incarnation.

Or he could wish nothing since he was staring at an obviously twisted entity. Even asking for healing wouldn't save you. It depends on what you asked combined with the Djinn's mood on how badly it will end and in all and every cases your soul belongs to it to torment forever (? - or at least until its beaten back can't remember which). You could ask for a glass of water for all it cares and it could either give you a glass of water and get your soul later or summon above your head a massive glass container full of tones of water and let it crash on you killing you and getting your soul instantly.

Kind of a strange coincidence that the djin can interpret the wish however he likes to cause pain and horror but with wishes done on himself, he interprets them just right. Imagine if the djin actually fulfilled wishes as people wanted, he could gather those souls in less than a day even start world wars because of him.

There's almost hardly any limitations to pratical effects they look better and flow better than CGI which is more expensive but takes less time the only down side to pratical effects.... that's why the best horror movies are from the mid 60's to very early 2000's it almost breaks my heart they don't use pratical effects anymore it's cheaper and looks way better.

It actually is but not in the common sense. Anything you ask of someone else is essentially a wish just not what we think when we use that word. Depending on language you can even literally say "I wish you to do this/that" when you either give an order or ask for something common from anyone. In some languages it works in some others it doesn't but in any case any time we express our desire or need for someone else to act in some way / do something that essentially is a wish too.

@@bdk5503 A command is related to a wish as I have already said, in both cases you ask from someone something. For the later part you are technically correct that the cop asked for the genie to freeze but in folklore djinn, demons, fair folks or other such spirits or minor divinities (sometimes major too) you would know that anything you ask (be it a command, a wish or just asking normally) and isn't stated in a very accurate way with no room for misinterpretation, they are sure to twist it against you while following the letter of what you said but not the spirit (if they are evil, this is the typical for things like Demons) or they might just do it because of misunderstanding what you meant (if they are not malignant - this is more typical for fair folk). Djinn are basically depending on the folklore/era either minor deities (originally), a type of supernatural but otherwise earthly creature (later on / in Islam if I am not mistaken) or a wish granding supernatural entity in modern folklore (basically games, books and movies). A Djinn in most version can be anything from good to evil and everything in between, not unlike a human but when its evil (either because it just personally is or in a version where Djinns are only evil like in this film) it will twist the wording of your wishes against you as much as it likes as long as the way you stated your wish left room for such a thing. In this case the policeman said and I quote "Freeze!!!" and nothing else. Even when asked to repeat by the Djinn he said once again: "Yeah, you are god damn right I said: Freeze!". So the policeman ASKED the Djinn to freeze but never specified what or who to freeze. Sure its obvious he meant that the Djinn should "freeze" but he never stated the target upon which the command/wish should act upon. As such it was left open to interpretation, open to interpretation by a Djinn which in this case is basically for all intends and purposes a demon (the ancient evil pagan deity version) and is not in this for your welfare. So the policeman said "freeze" and the Djinn freezed whatever it chose to. For a counter example I present you the security guard not letting the Djinn enter the protagonist's workplace (the white guy with the light beard). The Djinn told him "ask me of something" and the guard responded with a plain "I want you to leave". The Djinn promptly turned around against its will and start walking away while protesting about it but not being able to do anything because the statement was clear without room to wiggle: "I want YOU to LEAVE". The only things the Djinn could have changed is about "leave what? This square meter of floor? This particular tile I step upon? Leave my watch on the floor?" but any possible twisting would still not allow it to go through that door or turn the guard's wish against him... until he opened his mouth again and made a 2nd statement counting as a wish in which case the Djinn found the chance to misinterpret that one wish and kill him. The whole Djinn situation is like you are just a random person (that you most likely are) and trying to win a legal battle against a trained veteran lawyer in a "kangaroo" court which is set to try finding a reason/mistep to send you to the gas chamber. The movie had a lot of silly things (even so I like it and consider it a classic) but this one was not one of them. Heck such things happen even in real life (between humans ofcourse - or humans and organizations) all the time both on purpose and by mistake.
