OMG - I only just noticed that my editing programme removed some of the clips and there’s just a blank screen 😭 I’m so embarrassed. I’ll make sure to triple check next time!!! Also - I'm not sure if people have skipped the intro but I just wanted to reiterate that I'm aware I would have missed a lot of information about the members and their history and pre-debut information. As I mentioned in the intro - It's near impossible to watch every single video and read every single interview especially as someone who (at the time of making this video) was studying full time and working part time. This video was purely for fun and was a personal project for myself to learn more about the members - the aim wasn't to cover every single minute detail but rather to share information that maybe wasn't super common to fans/army and also as a way for those who are wanting to get into BTS to have a bit more information 💜 If I have left out a fact or some fun information please comment it below - let's learn more about bangtan! Like I said in the outro - please be kind, this truly was something I did for fun to share more about my favourite band 😸

It is VERY interesting hearing the members say that Bighit had no trainee system when they joined, so everything was shaped and put into place thanks to them. It warms my heart that Namjoon's method of telling the members to listen to a playlist with a big range of music genres, stayed within the company.

Yeah, but sadly hybe after the success of bts went back to training idols like the big 3 not even looking for already talented producers and composers but training idols to perfection. They stopped helping artist grow with txt, but maybe it’s just a bighit standard.😅

This is such a cool video, thanks for putting so much work into it! As a 10+ year ARMY who's done some research myself over the years, I wanted to add a few things. This topic is so huge and overwhelming it's impossible to get everything in one go... it's kind of fascinating how documenting Bangtan's history is like this kind of endless oral history collaborative project. ➡ I noticed you sometimes mixed up Korean and international ages, which is easy to do since it's a confusing issue! Until very recently Korean age was measured differently, so you'll find BTS being referred to as 1-2 years older than they actually are in a lot of sources. For example Namjoon was likely around 15-16 international age when he made his pre-debut mixtape (which as far as I know was just a collection of his various underground rap songs), and 16 when he signed to Big Hit. Jungkook was 13 when he auditioned for Superstar K in early 2011, and he joined Big Hit shortly after. He was 15 at debut. The easiest thing to do is ignore what age an article says, instead look at the date in question and calculate based on their date of birth. ➡ Just a small thing, but you said Big Hit "built their first dorm" for BTS to move into, but I think maybe you just misspoke because it was quick. They lived together in a small apartment in an existing Nonhyeon-dong apartment complex. Random extra details: Yoongi said in an interview with You Quiz in 2021 that as many as 11 trainees would share that tiny bedroom, and since they didn't have enough beds some of them would sleep on the floor. Namjoon mentioned they also shared a bathroom, which wasn't enough for all of them, so sometimes they would have to run down the street to a local public bathroom. ➡ Yoongi has definitely confirmed his parents didn't support him early on. I remember him talking about it a few times, but the only source I actually have saved is a brief mention from the LA Times in 2023. The interviewer brought it up and he just acknowledged it and said "things are good with us [now]." As for the full backstory of that, I unfortunately can't remember a specific source so take this with a grain of salt, but I clearly remember him talking about it years ago, telling a story where after increasing arguments he came home one day to find all his lyric notebooks had been destroyed, and that spurred his decision to move away from home. Again, I can't confirm this since I don't remember the source, but I have a memory of hearing him talk about it! ➡ Not a correction just a query - I know Seokjin was street casted, but I don't think that necessarily means he didn't audition. As far as I know it just means he was approached on the street and invited to a private audition, rather than applying to a public audition (this is a relatively common practice in k-pop). He likes to jokingly tell a simplified story where he was just signed for his looks, but I don't think it's necessarily true that he actually skipped the process of auditioning with his voice and other talents. ➡ About why BTS changed from a hip hop group to an idol group and changed the members. Again I can't remember the exact source for this, but a couple of years ago Bang Shihyuk wrote a lengthy essay which I think was for an academic institution(?) where he described a lot of things about the formation of BTS... sorry my memory is vague, can anyone remember what this was? It's possible I have a link saved somewhere deep in my archives. I remember him explaining in that essay how after the first year of building a hip hop group, Big Hit (at the time a very tiny company) was essentially looking at their financial prospects and realising things looked bad. They felt that debuting a straight-forward hip hop group at that time was not likely to be successful enough for the company to survive. They decided to pause their plans (perhaps this is when the 2011 debut was postponed?) and do a research project looking at global industry trends. This research indicated that while straight-up hip hop wasn't a strong market for Koreans, an idol group with hip hop elements and strong dance performances, who still wrote their own music and had an authentic message, had potential to be successful. He also said he felt the songwriting talents of rap line had potential to reach people all over the world, but if they stayed as a hip hop group they wouldn't have that kind of mass-audience appeal. Furthermore this change of direction brought in a new investor, which gave them extra money they needed for BTS to debut. This next part is pure speculation - perhaps this investor was already interested, but wasn't willing to invest unless things moved in a more marketable direction? Because it seems like Big Hit really needed that money for the debut... but how could they have known someone would randomly invest after they shifted direction? It might make more sense that an investment offer was on the table, and they realised this change of direction was the only viable way forward... but as I said that's just speculation, based on my slightly hazy memory of the essay! Another story comes to mind, which is from Hoseok's episode of Suchwita. He and Yoongi talked about a time pre-debut when the company realised the finances weren't going to work, so they came to rap line and told them BTS was over and they had to pack up and go home. Apparently they basically staged a protest and refused to leave the apartment (looking back they said "how did we dare??") and it seemed like this show of commitment inspired the company to go out and do one last search for new investors. So... putting the timeline together with this apparently being before vocal line joined(?) all these finance-related incidents would line up in early 2011, which is when the debut was delayed, some of the other rappers left, and they shifted direction to k-pop. One final detail I wanted to add is that rap line didn't really come into Big Hit as 'k-pop trainees' in the traditional sense. It seems like they spent their first few months or so with a minimal amount of training, and just making music together. In an interview with Esquire in November 2020 they referred to this as their 'season 1' of trainee life, with Namjoon saying "At that time [2010-11] I don’t think our label exactly knew what to do with us. They just basically let us be and we had some lessons, but we also just chilled and made music sometimes." Then Hoseok talked about moving on to 'season 2' at some point after vocal line members started joining, saying "[that was] when we officially underwent hard training. We started dancing, and that’s how I would say our team building started." ➡ Tiny extra detail: Not only is Jimin in the MV for GLAM's song Party XXO, but the song was actually written by Namjoon. This is particularly cool because the lyrics are openly about queer love, which was (and still is) incredibly rare in k-pop! Even with all that there's so much else I could have added... which isn't to say you didn't do a great job of covering the story, you did! It's just that (as you know) there's far too much to this story to fit into one video. Honestly someday it would be great to try putting together a complete comprehensive virtual timeline of BTS, adding sources for every story. It would be vast!!

Thank you so much for your comment and for all those facts!! I really appreciate it. like you said there’s wayyy too much information to put into one video but I’m so glad we can all learn from each other in these comments! ❤
@ТетянаОніпко-е1фКүн бұрын
yes, BSHH said that they did the calculations and realized that a hip-hop group would not be commercially successful, and it was decided to add vocalists and debut an idol group. And also because of financial difficulties (he had a debt of about 1 million) he wanted to cancel BTS's debut, but someone told him that if your debt increases a little more, it will not change anything.
@ТетянаОніпко-е1фКүн бұрын
I think they were counting on the profit from Glam to debut their next group. But since Glam was a fiasco, the company ended up in such a difficult situation.
@JinJuneOut-ld1jnКүн бұрын
Really enjoyed your comment. It's a great addendum to the information in the video. It would be amazing if multiple people could get together and put forth a complete video essay on BTS and ARMY. I realize what a big undertaking that would be but it would also be just as amazing to consume.
@shockofthenewКүн бұрын
@@ТетянаОніпко-е1ф I think the situation with GLAM was a bit more complex. It's true they weren't very successful, but they weren't a complete flop either - and their big scandal didn't happen until 2014, so they were still active before and after BTS debuted. I don't think Big Hit could have made their whole business plan rest on GLAM being successful, since they were just a rookie group themselves. Also they weren't even a Big Hit group, they were signed with Source Music, so Big Hit would presumably only have a portion of earnings from them. The main GLAM fiasco happened in 2014, and I believe that's when Big Hit nearly went bankrupt. I think that's partly why BTS talk about 2014 as being a very difficult year for them, and why they felt this huge pressure for their albums to be successful, and were incredibly stressed when they didn't sell as much as hoped - because at that point they were suddenly the only active artist at a company on the verge of bankruptcy, which had just been through a massive scandal. GLAM were never coming back, and Homme were on hiatus, so Baby Bangtan were suddenly the sole breadwinners for an entire company that was deep in debt!

He made blogs and clips for social platforms, just like the other members, but those were never released. To the outside world, BTS was a six-member group. In Rise of Bangtan, he doesn't appear until the second episode. He hid in the corner watching his fellow members during online postings. Some said it was to prevent other agencies from stealing V, which could happen before the official debut. As a result, V did all the training and preparations for the debut with the other members without being known. I feel bad for him and what he had to put up with at such a young age.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. The Rise Of Bangtan is the best docuseries there is. It was made with love and knowledge from someone who was along for the journey since pre debut. She also did not make the series for money as I myself was one of many who convinced her to start a patreon to support her in its making. She had been working on the series for 3 years and focused all her attention to it during the pandemic. The things you are repeating are negative rumors that are twisted versions of facts. Some of which were spread by antis who were mad because she wouldn't or couldn't make the same kind of series for their favs. And some were started just to try to discredit the creator and the series itself.
