When she said, you can’t choose where you’ve come from that is true, but you can choose who you will become as an adult. It’s part of growing and learning from other people, and being open-minded, that the world is different than what you’re used to when you were raised.

They did it to make the show interesting and for them selves. Both Tyra and expesally Janis d were not good looking anymore honestly I'd argue neither were ever that dang pretty even when they were 21-24 prime model age. And 90 percent of the girls on the show were already more beautiful than they ever were without having teams of makeup, hair, and clothing stylist. And it hurt them that they were not able to get proper gigs as models anymore but these girls could be the replacement. What really hits me is tyras clear hatred for the girls of color. I actually hope that she was just jealous and knew they would be her competitors and that she didn't really think that there was seriously more "ugly" in dark skin girls. I understand that everyone has things they are attracted to and it's not exactly racist to normally be more attracted or less attracted to features found in certain types of people but you should be able to see the beauty in all even if it's not what you tend to care for on a personal basis for a person you would normally date. Everyone has a type weather they like to admit it or not but it's a problem when you can't appreciate the beauty in others and just gotta say they are ugly and put them down Tyra was ok considering Janice... ehh honestly I don't think she was ever model material she even in her prime was so so... nothing special about her at all. I don't care for trash huge for head but I did understand that was a large reason why she was a model... you don't become a huge model by looking like every other "hot girl" you do it by looking different while still having confidence and wearing your flaws with pride. I honestly have no idea how either ever became super models while being so insecure but I guess they might have been more confident when younger or they were good at pretending to and looking confident even when they weren't but people didn't know what they were insecure about because how could most people know😅

EXACTLYY i cannot STAND when right wing/hateful people whine about ""being discriminated against"" based on their hateful views, or compare it to actual discrimination in any way. Like the difference is that what you do is BASED on hate and discrimination. Black people, other POC, queer people, fat people etc are people who just are themselves. One of the episodes I remember vividly was during one of the boy/girl seasons with Nyle (a Deaf model) where the photoshoot was done with strobe lights (which is already a safety issue). I remember it so distinctly because of how incredibly ablest it was! The creative director and the photographer were yelling at him and getting mad that he couldn't get the cues right because he could see his interpreter due to the flashing lights. They excused their behavior because "well you expect shoots to accommodate you all the time???" and I remember sitting there (as a disabled person) going, "Yes." It was so pointless and unnecessarily cruel, any normal photographer would've just paused the lights to communicate with him.

This shoe challenge makes me so mad because I know now that those shoes come with a warning in the box that says DO NOT WALK IN THESE. They are literally a hazard and the manufacturer says they are not meant to walk in, you are only supposed to dance in them as they are for pole dancing. Its infuriating that they would have known that and made those girls try to walk in them anyway.

it’s pretty obvious now that everyone in a position of power on this show absolutely relished in the cruelty they got away with. I don’t buy that whole ‘the industry is cruel so we have to be cruel to you’ excuse. imagine if Tyra had actually taken this opportunity to influence the next generation of models and set a good example instead of making fun of their appearance, ruining their hair, making them get cosmetic procedures, and pretending to pass out. but that doesn’t make for good tv I guess. even as a kid I knew something was off. I’m glad this is off the air now.

You can imagine what that's done for my self image 😅 there was a season where one of the girls named Kenya (i think?) gained probably 5 lbs over the course of the season and you would have thought she'd ballooned up like the blueberry kid from Willy Wonka overnight. @@rosyreverie Leah is a fundamentalist of current post Vatican II doctrine. She is not a trad-cat she doesn’t only go to Latin mass and she doesn’t veil at mass which is why I call her fundie and not trad cat. I was a fundie catholic and my circles of fundies followed her and the other catholic celebrities out of Denver very very closely. Fundamentalism does exist in every religion unfortunately. She preaches exactly what the church teaches - dv isn’t a reason for divorce, women are responsible for their assaults due to lack of faith, and abortion is a mortal sin. She isn’t ‘far from radical’ by any means.

This show was my roman empire as a kid lol. It baffled me how they were not models, coming to a modeling competition expecting to learn about modeling, but being taught absolutely nothing about modeling. Just thrown into wild af challenges that have literally nothing to do with anything. Plus it always rubbed me the wrong way that they had those drastic makeovers. Like, why though? The "evil edits" are a real thing and super harmful to the people involved. They are often not even aware of how they are being represented until long after filming. I used to follow two separate celebs who were given evil edits on separate reality shows. One of the shows being aired was being filmed simultaneously so the girls realized they were being evil edited and one of them showed up for the filming with a sign declaring she was in a good mood.

I work in law. I LOVE seeing women who work in law, from legal editors (like me) to paralegals to lawyers to judges. It is a field that has long been a boys club and my generation (millennials) was the first to see a HUGE swing in more genders and ethnicities. I love seeing the change we're making because to have quality legal representation we need to have diverse voices. Legal precedencies being set in cases is the first step towards changing laws, so people working in legal have a big impact on the world, and for a very long time it was at least 80% white men from upper middle class or higher backgrounds, and that just isn't enough variation in life experiences to truly form a robust and equal justice system.

There is nothing wrong with the racist, misogynistic, unhealthy system in place, *you’re* just gonna need to abandon boundaries, standards, and self-respect in order to make it big. I watched the show as a child and loved it. I thought Tyra was giving constructive criticism so they would be prepared for the modelling world. The delusion, omg, but I also believe things were lost in translation as the show was shown with subtitles in my country.

This randomly popped up in my recommended and I'm so happy it did. Awesome video! Can I suggest that you show images of the people you're talking about when you're talking about them? I definitely watched this season when it first came out, but couldn't remember names and was dying to put a face to your commentary for a lot of the video. Loved your commentary, though. Awesome video.

Never watched ANTM before - but wow, I didn’t realize just HOW much influence it had over RPDR. To the point that Ru literally copied the “this ain’t Rupaul’s best friends race” line… 👀 30:04

I recommend Willie Muse's deep dive into this season. It's just genuinely pretty funny, and rounds the corner into being insightful. He rarely updates it, but it's one of my ultimate comfort watches.

I loved the video (this show was vile oml I only watched one cycle with twin ginger girls who both made it pretty far?) and I love how you come across on camera, it’s like I’m at brunch with my bestie and she had too many mimosas and is giving me a free lecture on marine biology, 10/10

This is a show I never watched growing up but I found it so interesting seeing you pick it apart. It’s crazy the things reality shows get away with but especially in the early 2000s it was WILD what they aired😅 also this is the first video I’ve seen from you and can I just say you are so gorgeous and you speak with such confidence radiating off of you!! Definitely coming back for more😍😍😍
