Anime games have spoilers, that's how they work and it's inevitable. They always focus on using every opportunity to make references to what happened in the series. From looks, quotes, moves, to the actual story mode (that most of the times are telling the story in the series).

Motions do allow for more options, and besides I seriously doubt motions are the hardest part of these kinds of games when I see fifty layers of crossups and high lows. I don’t feel strongly against it, but I still argue they should be in.

I'd personally prefer the motions so there's fewer buttons and the possibility of more specials, but it honestly doesn't make a big difference in a game like this. Even in games where it does make a big difference (like SF or GBVS), it can be designed around so it's not game-breaking.

I saw go1 doing some nasty shit and I was immediately locked in. Also, with my knowledge of the show (I'm currently just before chimera ant arc) and imagining how characters could play, Chrollo will be a Sajam ass character. And as a side note for characters I hope get in, for a character likely to get in I would love to see Uvogin show up in the roster. Uvogin is a straight up gorilla and I already know he will be doing Azrael shit. And for a character I really wanna see but probably won't make it is Canary. I wanna see Canary doing sick rhythm echo combos so bad lol

One of the immediate issue of this game's visual and would be easy to fix is the lack of dynamic camera movement, the game looks a bit too zoomed out and there aren't any dynamic camera angle movements aside from the super flash. Gameplay looks amazing and I guerentee the FGC will love it but without the dynamic visual flare this might turn off a lot of casuals. An easy experiment you can do is to boot up any modern fighting game and just look at the camera work, a good example is Tekken 8, DBFZ and GGS, the camera changes to this dynamic look very often which fires dopamine in the brain a lot

As a big Hunter x Hunter fan it’s cool to see that they took nothing from the Nen in “Nen impact.” It feels like they didn’t really want to make a HxH game. They just made the same type of game they’ve been making for decades and wrapped a Hunter x Hunter skin on it. At least bungee gum has the properties of rubber and gum 🥵

A new game that is cheap to get into is honestly something the FGC needs, even if it looks cheap as well. I'm a bigger believer in $20 or $30 games than I am in full F2P at this point, so I hope this is that, and they're not trying to compete with full-priced titles or with 2XKO. It's not at all my type of game, but I might as well give it a try, and have some fun with it if they go for that kind of entry price.

That might be a good strategy because those games are complete incapable of competing with SF and TK and their content package. The formation of a line of lower price games where the companies dont invest in top notch technology and large package of single player content (for fg standards), but can deliver simple and silly fun and decent sized base rosters without a long campaign of dlc updates.

It's the first major anime franchise fighting game since DBFZ that isn't an arena fighter, which automatically makes it the best major anime franchise fighting game since DBFZ.

The company is precisely exploiting the lack of traditional fgs based on animes, surfing on the hype wave created by DBFZ. Before that it probably didn't seem interesting to bet on the traditional fg format, compared to the arena fg format, that became the anime game staple. Secondly, Hunter x Hunter has no console games and no fgs, so this game is also addressing that matter. That is only reinforced by the fact that Marvel is still dead and DBFZ already ended its update cycle. So this game will try to fill that space. I don't believe it will work because the game looks too cheap, but the intention looks clear to me. Similar case to that wave of Smash derivatives that started appearing after Smash's update cycle ended. Cheap games betting too hard on the mere factor of being new.

It shows how desperate they are about wanting to exploit a particular situation where Marvel is dead, DBFZ's cycle ended (the best replacement the fgc found), there's a serious lack of anime 2d fgs, and a lack of HXH console games in general. So if there's dlc, that means they want to rip off the fans really badly. Not that DBFZ didn't do anything abusive... that dlc campaign was long but at least the game had some excellent qualities, and most importantly the base roster wasn't lacking too much.

Oh was this confirmed for 2025? I wasn't sure how long the wait was gonna be. While I do hope some visual stuff gets ironed out before then, I know this game's budget is like comically small so I'll keep expectations low. It looks fun enough and the property has some potentially silly characters they could put in here if they get it right (please give us Knuckle, I wanna put people into bankruptcy!) so I think this could at least get a cult following....just like Hunter X Hunter itself really.

I'm not sure if the 3x3 MvC style gameplay is the best option for HXH, i get the overall feel that the company just wanted to surf on the DBFZ hype, that used that model. And animes are not getting traditional fgs lately. But anyways i can't deny that 8ing knows how to make a good game in that style if they put the effort, since they made MvC3. Also the truth is that the library of anime fgs in a traditional gameplay style is so limited that this HXH game has chances of turning up to be placed among the good ones. Like, list all these traditional style anime fgs and you will see that the ones with a minimally decent gameplay consistency are very rare (you might want to forget, but DB Final Bout and DBZ Taiketsu exist and are examples that have to be counted here). It might be infinitely below DBFZ but it's still one of the rare traditional style anime fgs in recent years.

So the story is that Bushiroad very loudly and proudly proclaimed that they would be making games on extremely low budgets, being roughly around $650,000 last time I checked. Adjacent to this, Bushiroad did not renew Kazuchika Okada or Will Ospreay’s contracts, two major wrestlers in their New Japan Pro Wrestling organization, which are massive blows, it’d be like John Cena leaving WWE. Needless to say, this game will need to be a big enough hit for them to seriously invest in further titles.

@@invincibleloonie Given that context, the actual choice of working with HXH becomes even more strange than it already was... since the series, though it's moderately popular, is totally out of the media radar and attentions right now. And HXH is far from the "classic" status of series like DBZ, that can easily get infinite new games even without getting new content, like in the 2000s before the debut of DBS and DBZ Kai. It would be safer to work with DBZ, Naruto or One Piece.

Very Tatsunoko v Capcom and MVC2. The backrounds are pretty ugly, the roster looks pretty small, and the level size is huge without a lot of projectiles and big normals, nonetheless it looks fun. Hopefully they will release it at 40 dollars and can use that money to develop a bigger roster.

On the other hand, (real) anime games are always betting on the eagerness of the fans of the anime to support the product. Like, we all know most arent even well polished products... and if that kind of business strategy is surviving and actually doing well, that means the companies that specialize in them are comfortable enough and willing to keep doing. In the 80s and 90s in Japan, the astronomical and unprecedented level of hype about DB-DBZ heated up the game industry so that multiple games were coming out literally every year. They couldnt afford to even let the anime end first to capitalize on all the hype, so all those early games are incomplete and based on the story arc currently airing at the time. That's how game companies tend to work with popular animes, and the actual excellent products are an exception.

That doesn't sound right, because this is not bad looking only compared to mainstream games. This is very below average for a mid 2020s console game. There are fgs with technical standards much lower than the mainstream fgs like KOF 15 and Samsho, but they are not bad looking, just behind the competitors with elite level graphics. This HXH game right now is looking like late PS3 or early PS4.

8ing is a company that does all sort of things. The company made the Castlevania arena game for the Wii, the Naruto games for the GC, Bloody Roar... and TvC and MvC3 and DNFD, but people were blinded by their hype for the anime and then focused too hard on those later games and wished too hard that the HXH game would be closer to that kind of games in the catalog, not the cheaper games.
