This has been a highly anticipated video, and I hope it makes expectations! It really felt like a War Aesthetics type of edit, so I'm quite proud! Thank you all for the support as always! It means a lot! Here is to my 21st Birthday, and to 4,100 Subscribers! God Bless you all!
The Gulf War was a 1990-1991 armed campaign waged by a 35-country military coalition in response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Spearheaded by the United States, the coalition's efforts against Iraq were carried out in two key phases: Operation Desert Shield, which marked the military buildup from August 1990 to January 1991; and Operation Desert Storm, which began with the aerial bombing campaign against Iraq on 17 January 1991 and came to a close with the American-led Liberation of Kuwait on 28 February 1991.
On 2 August 1990, Iraq invaded the neighboring State of Kuwait and had fully occupied the country within two days. Initially, Iraq ran the occupied territory under a puppet government known as the "Republic of Kuwait" before proceeding with an outright annexation in which Kuwaiti sovereign territory was split, with the "Saddamiyat al-Mitla' District" being carved out of the country's northern portion and the "Kuwait Governorate" covering the rest. Varying speculations have been made regarding the true intents behind the Iraqi invasion, most notably including Iraq's inability to repay the debt of more than US $14 billion that it had borrowed from Kuwait to finance its military efforts during the Iran-Iraq War. Kuwait's demands for repayment were coupled with its surge in petroleum production levels, which kept revenues down for Iraq and further weakened its economic prospects; throughout much of the 1980s, Kuwait's oil production was above its mandatory quota under OPEC, which kept international oil prices down. Iraq interpreted the Kuwaiti refusal to decrease oil production as an act of aggression towards the Iraqi economy, leading up to the hostilities. The invasion of Kuwait was immediately met with international condemnation, including by the United Nations Security Council, which unanimously imposed economic sanctions against Iraq. British prime minister Margaret Thatcher and American president George H. W. Bush deployed troops and equipment into Saudi Arabia and openly urged other countries to send their own forces to the scene. In response to the joint call, an array of countries joined the American-led coalition, forming the largest military alliance since World War II. The bulk of the coalition's military power was from the United States, with Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Egypt as the largest lead-up contributors, in that order; Saudi Arabia and the Kuwaiti government-in-exile paid around US $32 billion of the US $60 billion cost to mobilize the coalition against Iraq.
Initial efforts to dislodge the Iraqi presence in Kuwait began with an aerial and naval bombardment on 17 January 1991, which continued for five weeks. During this time, as the Iraqi military found itself unable to ward off the coalition's attacks, Iraq began to fire missiles at Israel. While the coalition itself did not consist of Israel, the Iraqi leadership had launched the campaign under the expectation that the missile barrage would provoke an independent Israeli military response, and hoped that such a response would prompt the coalition's Muslim-majority countries to withdraw (see Arab-Israeli conflict). However, the jeopardization attempt was ultimately unsuccessful as Israel did not respond to any Iraqi attacks, and Iraq continued to remain at odds with most Muslim-majority countries. Iraqi missile barrages aimed at coalition targets stationed in Saudi Arabia were also largely unsuccessful, and on 24 February 1991, the coalition launched a major ground assault into Iraqi-occupied Kuwait. The offensive was a decisive victory for American-led coalition forces, who liberated Kuwait and promptly began to advance past the Iraq-Kuwait border into Iraqi territory. 100 hours after the beginning of the ground campaign, the coalition ceased its advance into Iraq and declared a ceasefire. Aerial and ground combat was confined to Iraq, Kuwait, and areas straddling the Iraq-Saudi Arabia border.

Missouri and Wisconsin shelling Iraqi positions in Kuwait to make them think we would do an amphious landing and invade that way while tanks were being trucked West and we came up from the South to invade Iraq. Another thing I heard, an air force pilot said they took off with maximum bomb and missile loads so not fully tanked up on fuel and got filled up in the air. He said he saw 7 tankers doing all their own ovals in the sky, fueling up planes. Crazy.

@@mikoyanz _9/11 and the Global War on Terrorism_ Netflix doc puts it best: post Gulf War and from '92 onwards we were the world's greatest hits so to speak, our culture topped the charts, McDonald's was living the highlife, we could bulldoze a major cultural icon and slap a Micky D's and its parking lot on top with 0 consequences, we were the sole superpower and could flex our huge freedom boner without much fuss from people around the world. And did I say "our" American Culture was what everyone was clamoring for? And it was the case even with Bosnia, Somalia, etc. jamming our groove, it was felt like minor speed bumps. We rode the train all the way to 9/11. And now? We're reaping 22 years of GWOT being waged in Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, The Philippines, Yemen, Syria, Libya, and fucking around with Iran and Norko . . . Which is to say, we went in cause it was EXPECTED for us to go in.

What Russia tried, and spectacularly failed to do, in their invasion of Ukraine
@mrobocop1666
@mrobocop1666 Жыл бұрын
First weeks of war they behaved like rather in police operation than real war, with return fire only, avoiding fights in highly urbanized areas to avoid civilian loses. This weeks were critical and made them lose initiative. What was right from humanitarian perspective also was a big military mistake. US didn't care about civilian loses in both Iraq wars and killed a lot since Iraqis are strangers for them, while Russia sees Ukrainians as brothers, which they effectively are considering millions of relatives on both sides of the front
@CoiboiXD
@CoiboiXD Жыл бұрын
@@mrobocop1666 Russia thought that Ukraine would just not fight and allow Russia in as they brought tons and tons of military gear and eq to Ukraine as an intimidation, they werent expected to use said weapons but to their surprise, Ukraine fought back which they were very unprepared for.

@@mrobocop1666The formal fighting in Iraq is in the desert, and civilian casualties stem from the long-term security war. Comparing the ruins of cities in Ukraine and Iraq, I don't think the Russians care about civilian casualties. They initially just wanted to repeat the Prague incident.

Comparing the Gulf War with the Russian invasion of eastern Ukraine.. very stupid and what you expect from a typical american gamer boy. Gulf War contained 2 million troops and Iraq was boycotted by almost every country including the Soviet Union.
