2:56 Steve, I don't want to be a correcting smartypants, but UV actually has almost no effect in full spectrum images. You can get the most top of the line dichroic UV filter from Zeiss with an extremely sharp cutoff at 400nm, and when you put it on a full spectrum camera, it will basically do nothing. If you split hairs and really pixel peep, it does change the tint a tiny bit, but negligibly so. It is because the bayer layer with its color filters still blocks most UV that makes it through (and with your fancy zoom lens, not much probably does anyway, the higher the element count and thickness of glass, the less UV is passed. You could even try this, if you got a UV pass filter, you would notice that your exposure would drop by good 6 stops. So the UV data is being 6 stops underexposed, and if the camera somehow could tell you which photons captured exactly were UV, it would show a black image more or less. The main wild effects with full spectrum come from the bayer layer passing through and recording both visible and IR.
@SteveONions
@SteveONions Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information, that’s not something I was aware of. I remember reading years ago about the UV filtering effect of lenses but I didn’t realise the amount getting through was so small 🙂

@SteveONions
@SteveONions Жыл бұрын
Thanks Alfred. There is a lot of scope to work on the images in post but this isn’t something I like to do. The advantage of a full spectrum camera is the ability or use various filters, a 650nm can be effective in leaving more of the visible spectrum for a haunting appearance.

I liked all the images. I think trying out new things is wonderful because if you don't you will never know what it is like. Do I like this concept? Can I create something that I cannot otherwise create? I was at another site, and someone felt that any sort of manipulation (like using Lomo Purple) was a manipulation akin to using AI. But this demands that there is some standard film that we should not deviate from because (after all) Portra images won't be the same as Ektar or Fujifilm. So what is the gold standard then? To me, nothing is going to replicate the human eye perfectly (nor should it necessarily). Thank you for another lesson to make us think. Even though that can hurt. ;-)
