(Deliberately not using the words "deserved her", because love is not transactional and no amount of good deeds makes you entitled to or deserving of romantic love from a specific person). But I thought he was a consistently upstanding character. Gonna have to watch the long version of this video for her full thoughts...

Yeah I thought they did a good job of showing him learning and growing and changing. Cuz at the beginning he is a jerk, but by the end he's a good guy who does good and helps people.

Pocahontas gets married to John in the sequel, where they move to England together. Supposedly following "true events" but conveniently leaving out the whole issue of consent & child marriage

@@xxBreakxxAwayxx3 She marries a different John in the second movie. Anyway, my point was that she said it was the first Disney movie where the love interests didn't end up together and I was just correcting that.

@@arkroogs90Pocahontas simply let him go home. There was no other woman vying for John's affections. In fact, just the opposite, Pocahontas had two men fighting over her, literally!What makes Notre Dame problematic isn't that he just doesn't get the girl. It's that his love interest chooses a more conventionally attractive and masculine man instead of him. This paired with the fact that in the Disney canon this is the first (and currently only) explicitly disabled lead who is told his whole life no one could ever possibly love him, let alone be IN love with him. And they chose to not let him get the girl, almost proving that very point which is just kinda 😬 In real life, one person not falling in love with you doesn't mean much in the grand scheme but in a Disney film, it is very significant.
