A discussion about Yuk Hui’s term Cosmotechnics and its impact on the practice of art making.

Cosmotechnics is an exhibition featuring artists Simon Blackmore, Andy Broadey, Paul Dolan and Helen Knowles and theoretical contribution by El Putnam. It marks the completion of an initial phase of research examining how Yuk Hui’s term Cosmotechnics impacts the concept and practice of art making.
Hui explains ‘The concept of cosmotechnics concerns the idea that different cultures and epochs have different ways of thinking about technology’ (Hui, 2019). The artists are interested in how this term explains the co-functioning of technical, moral, ecological and social relations of the 21st Century as emerging from within specific localities Cosmotechnics calls for a re-prioritisation of the local as a way of challenging western imposed ideas of progress, and assumptions that our modernity is entirely conditioned by networked globalisation.

Came here via art.earth's instagram. I am fascinated by Yuk Hui's work taking off from Steigler, and will be interested to see where this interacts with the approach of artists who have been exploring these ideas.
