I was there a few days before it officially opened. It was meant to be a half day park. I also was designed to show how movies and television shows were made and and special or sound effects were done.

So 1989 was a big year for me! April 24th NKOTB was founded, May 1st was MGM and July 10th I broke my neck. Rarely do I get to be there on May 1st, but i was there on that day this year! I missed you twice in a week this trip!

I was there in April 1990. Jim Henson was shooting a Muppet special for Disney and I was able to get my park ticket autographed. Sadly, Jim died shortly after and this was the only special he was able to film for Disney at the parks. I still have that ticket, framed.

I went to MGM Studios when I was in 3rd grade in 1991/1992. I was cast to be on SuperStar television and was on Gilligan's Island. I remember the studio tour. They had the Golden Girls house

You should have grabbed a sound bite with Jeff. He’s a really nice guy. Why did you hold back a blog Kyle? You could have had this for morning and your friends for dinner as part of this same blog. I was there in October of 1989. Muppets was on the backlots. They use to throw water on you, and do all sorts of 3D effects. Great movie ride was a staple to that park.

The studios were very different than I wasn't there an opening day, but I did go there in December of that year and it was a lot of fun. Yes we had the back lot tour. Whatever they called it first you saw people actually making costumes on a tram going through building then you went to where they had houses like the golden girls or empty nest and you went to catastrophe Canyon on the way you saw different movie props like the tank from Indiana Jones or the ship from flight of the navigator end there was a building with more movie memorabilia from movies like Evita in the Santa Claus costumes then they let you walk down New York St. then at night you had the Osborne Christmas lights spectacular, which was unbelievable and you could walk street fullof Christmas decorations. But It was a good day for you. I'm happy you got to enjoy it and I'm sorry this is so long. Good job. Kyle.

I went in December 1989! I was a senior in high school. And they may not be opening day, but Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular (August) and Star Tours (December) are opening year attractions that are still there.

Both rides were the best!! MGM Studios was named just like the attractions at EPCOT when it opened. They paid for the naming rights. When the contract expired it was renamed Hollywood Studies.

l agree Disney needs to sell these fragrances! Next best thing is Magic Candle Company they have a website and their roomsprays are spot on! My favorite are the Haunted, Beach, and Banshee sprays. The Beach spray smells just like all the big resorts Yacht, Beach, Floridian etc. They even have ride sprays like Pirates...try them, trust me you'll be addicted!!!

We were there in May 1989 - Roger Rabbit was everywhere! The Backlot Tour was very cool and The Great Movie Ride was the greatest. I remember putting my hands in all the prints outside the theater. Great video Kyle 😃

I was there a lot in the early years. I miss all the attractions that are gone. Each time we went they had a parade with a star and then the footprint ceremony. We were also there when they had the grand opening of Star Tours with George Lucas and Mark Hamil. My daughter was on Mickey Mouse Club one time. We also went to tapings of Wheel of Fortune with Pat and Vanna and Millionaire with Meredith. It seemed so much more like a working studio in those days. Miss the Osborne Family lights so much!

I still have my animation cel from Great Mouse Detective I bought at the art of animation shop after watching the animators on opening day in what was the Star Wars docking bay now I think.i had a photographer /press pass

Hey Kyle! Flying in on Monday! Hope to see you!! Art of Animation was awesome when it was open. They actually made Mulan at Studios, their first animation film made there. The tour started with Walter Cronkite and Robin Williams talking about Disney animation. It’s in this short movie where Robin in his Mickey voice says, “Hey I’m a corporate symbol!” Then you walked through a hallway looking into the animators working followed by an animator demonstration. In concluded with a short film highlighting how the eyes make the emotions. The Hyperion theater show was cool. They picked people in the queue area and I got chosen to be in a Three Stooges scene. Without me knowing, I got a pie to the face. They gave me a dessert voucher to ABC Commissary afterwards. Hope I can share more stories next week.

I went to MGM studios for my honeymoon on march 1990. We had a great time at Disney’s new park. Last time I went was on December 2019. It is totally different. I miss the blue hat.

We were there in 1993 loved it so much better as MGM. Great movie ride, star shows. My husband and both kids got selected to be on those shows. I loved the back lot tour. The only thing I like now that was added is the beauty and the beast show. My husband got a pie in the face. It was awesome.
