wait, wait, wait, why does age has to do anything with beign able to cry with a film??? if a film is supposed to be sad or to get to your emotions, you'll cry if you're 12 or 30 or 50. that's what'0s beign a human beign is all about. Why does getting older make you less prone to emotions or a hardened?????????? I just don't understand that train of thought... Only if you're a spy I'd say, well, you really have to do that and hide you're emotions.

This is literally the sole movie that I've watched and sobbed so hard about. There are so many tragic stories out there, but for me this has been the saddest so far. I mean a lot of movies are sad, like the Ghibli ones, but most of those are taking place in wartime, so you're prepared for death and sadness. But this movie...! It starts in a very lighthearted manner and then it goes and rips your heart apart. Even so, it's still a beautiful tale of loyalty and friendship that I'll keep dear for the rest of my life.

Right! I NEEEEEVER let movies are shows make me cry except maybe 1 tear at the saddest part. But after I finished watching this at the age of 22! I felt depressed the whole night thinking about this. I cried I just can’t believe how they could let this end this way! I figured the worst that happened would be his grandfather died but nope too many bad things happened including the absolute worst one at the end..... I didn’t know the ending when I first watched it but I never would have thought any movie could depress me.

It is based on a 1872 English novel, A Dog of Flanders, by an English author of half French heritage, Maria Louise Ramé, aka Ouida (1839-1908). (Ramé's father was from France.) It is very popular in Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. I think the at least three Japanese anime adaptations of A Dog of Flanders definitely helped popularize the story in those three countries. On KZbin, there is a Tagalog (Filipino) dub version of the 1975 anime TV series, The Dog of Flanders, produced by Nippon Animation, the same Japanese animation studio which produced this 1997 anime film version, directed by the same director, Yoshio Kuroda. Nippon Animation produced most of World Masterpiece Theater anime TV series which used to air Sundays, 7:30 PM, on Fuji TV in Japan, from 1979 to 1997, 1969 to 1997 if one counts World Masterpiece Theater's predecessors. It briefly resurfaced on satellite TV, BS Fuji, from 2007 to 2009.
@daitoushoutou4 жыл бұрын
From what I've gathered, A Dog of Flanders isn't even that popular in the UK, homeland of the author, let alone Belgium and the US. But you can see a number of comments here in Japanese, several in Korean, and one or two in Simplified Chinese and Thai.

(This would be red yellow black horizontal) It sounds also like we're trying to brake our last record in not having a government.,. 😆 It's also not just a popular story, made and remade into an anime, it is also mentioned in lots of anime, like for example Re:Zero. (Subaru his ringtone is 1976 anime openingsong). Like I've told, until people started to notice "tourism" most people didn't knew about it yet in Flanders. Most Belgians know it from "Suske en Wiske het dreigende dinges" (1985), however only noticed when a lot of tourists were coming how popular it was in the east. (Btw, that's also before I was even born 😆) The book was written focused against animal cruelty and child labor. Back in those days, child labor was common, the amount of children dying in the large factories, ruled by the French speaking minority.,. At the end of the 19th century, an end came to this, when Daens, a priest turned political. Daenism started taking hold, the socialists, Liberals and the Christian Democratics deleted the "multiple voting system" what made so that a rich person was able to make multiple votes, they also made it possible for women to vote, gave rise to the mutuality (our social health care system, what are rather private organizations, funded by the government, not just one big bad health care plan like in the UK, or this obama care thingy)

I absolutely HATE this ending. What's worse is that the original story has two endings: 1. Nello is found by the pastor who throws a blanket on him and Patrasche to keep them warm effectively saving their lives. The painter finds the boy and makes him his apprentice. 2. Nello dies with his dog and nobody cares. I hate that they went with the worse option. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of sad endings, but only if they amount to something. Nello's death did NOTHING for the town it was almost like he never existed. Heck his girlfriend Eloise couldn't even move on from him so she became a Nun so no other man would have her. If I ever have the opportunity, I would remake just the ending of this movie. I would make it so that Aloise is a Schoolteacher telling this story in the beginning. In the end Nello wakes up to everyone in town greeting him, becoming the painter's apprentice(that's what he was going to do anyway) maybe Patrasche dies, but Nello finally finds a new family. In the future we get the two brothers greeting Aloise but soon a new guy comes in with a baby in a sling. This character is revealed to be Nello with his new baby with Aloise. The brothers take the kids to the boat like in the movie as Nello and Aloise reflect on Patrasche and his grandfather. After completing this ending, I would love to air it theatrically, print it on VHS tapes, and burn it to DvDs so everyone would find my better version if they looked this up.

I watched this for the first time. It had me in tears. But the story at a closer look is not tragic. There is more to it then that. One of the themes is to never let the world corrupt your heart. The kid could have done so many things to save his life, but he was more worried about others - and developed no hatred towards those that caused his plight. He died content and at peace. The story also references both the grandpa and the dog watching over him. He was happy to die on Christmas day after seeing the work of his favourite artist, and beside his friend. Providence is a strange thing. But sometimes things that seem tragic happen for reasons we don't understand. It's fictional, but I think that them represents a reality. Anyway, I really liked the film.

@daitoushoutou4 жыл бұрын
As a huge jazz fan during the 1980s and 1990s, I know Dianne Reeves's music. I like her jazz version of "Christmas Time Is Here," with words by Lee Mendelsohn and music by Vince Guaraldi, from the classic 1965 Peanuts TV holiday cartoon special, A Charlie Brown Christmas. You can hear it on KZbin, e.g., "Dianne Reeves - Christmas Time Is Here (Blue Note Records 2004)." I have it as part of my Christmas popular music rotation on iTunes. I have another rotation dedicated to Christmas classical music and sacred and religious music which can be associated with Christmas - as an eclectic music fan my whole life, I have been a longtime classical music fan - on iTunes as well. Remember, the late Vince Guaraldi, who composed those memorable soundtracks for the early Peanuts TV holiday cartoon specials during the 1960s and 1970s, was an American jazz pianist and composer, who had his own jazz group, the Vince Guaraldi Trio.

So sad. I have a 1959 version on DVD that uses the same dog that played Old Yeller but I wonder where you can get this version to own on any home media format because I like to cry at movies and other sad movies like Grave of the Fireflies, The Yearling, Old Yeller, and The Elephant Man are some of my favorite movies of all time.

Did Nello die? I watched a few tv series when I was a kid, and I had no idea what happened in the story because I could not recall the title.
