The secret Carlos Santana chord sequence. I love that Am D stuff. Evil Ways, Oye Como va and all that. In my youth I played lots of that on Aramboul Lake in Goa as rhythmguitarist. Makes really nice far expendable endless session backgrounds.

Over this track (A dorian keys), you can play B minor blues scale (1,#2,4,#4,5,b7,7,1) as long as you'll resolve it to B phyrgian. Same as C lydian, you can play C major blues scale which is same as A minor blues scale. D mixolydian, you can also play D major blues scale (1,2,#2,3,5,#5,6,1), as long as you'll resolve it to the original scale and remember don't bending too much when playing that "imposition" blues scale. E aeolian -> E minor blues. F# locrian -> well except the locrian, you should stay with locrian, but you can add chromaticism from b7,7,1. G ionian -> G major blues. I learn this from Greg Howe, no wonder he can improvise that fast, he mostly just playing blues scale (only with imposition).

I love the jams a lot, however I have one request. Put your solo at the end. I hate when I hear someone else's solo first because I want my unbiased notes to come without anyone else pointing me in a direction.
@stratplayer28 жыл бұрын
If u want to use a Quist track to upload a video, which many of us do, it's best to have the solo at the beginning because then your video won't suddenly cut out at the end, you can have a nice fade out to ur video. Not to mention we want to hear Quist play!
@guitarplayer28467 жыл бұрын
I'm fairly certain Quist solos at at the beginning to inspire and give an example.. I definitely see your point though. I'd like to see/hear Quist solo for 10-15 minutes, with one of his tracks.

DORIAN B2 or G melodic minor scale is a good choice !!!!!!! thank quist french fan
@guillermomiguensdiaz5555 жыл бұрын
ye, e blues is a definitive choice, depends on progression, some progressions admit more than a passing tone, nice the scales you say, i play them a lot over dorian progressions, since g melodic minor adds one note to g major blues or e blues, and B dorian b2 flat the third or C# to C the passing tone here will be G#

I love to think of this whole thing in a G major scale and jam across the whole fretboard in G major using all it's modes to add flavor. Makes it so easy. Sure in A Dorian But that's the same. Also, one could jam in the C major scale all over the neck for a unique sound too. It all works. That F sharp adds a bit to the mix, doesn't it??

I thought I understood modes but maybe not....wouldn't this be Dorian mode for the key of G? Dorion mode means you're utilizing the second chord as home correct? The Am is home in this chord progression. So the chord progression is 2-5-2-5...Dorian for G?
@kenavila6436 жыл бұрын
I think I may have answered my own question....A Dorian is the same thing as saying Dorian mode for the key of G correct?
@Passion_For_Poetry6 жыл бұрын
Yeah when I was learning I thought that too, I would prefer to think of it that way too but that's not the way it's done. A Dorian is G major starting / ending on A

Because he wanted to play in Dorian. The question doesn’t make sense.
@YouTw1tFace6 жыл бұрын
Or are you asking what makes this progression Dorian? Dorian is the second mode of the major scale. The first is Ionian and in this case A Dorian (G major/Ionian). Instead of starting/ending on G you start/end on A minor. In fact, you may not ever play the Root major chord (as in this track) because if you do it may sound just like a G major progression instead.
