Yeah I assumed they had farms of birds - that said, this still looks like a cottage industry and would likely be far less destructive than many others

I watched the whole documentary! They actually don’t take the whole nest, this was two different scenes put together but they take a portion of the nest and leave a good chunk for the eggs:)

Better than a snake eating the eggs. Besides, theybprobably just replace the nest with a replica. If the eggs hatch, I doubt the birds would care much.

No, you're wrong. The nest is not actually the bird's home, it's just made to keep the eggs safe and warm. As long as the feathers are harvested shortly before the eggs hatch, there is no effect on the eggs so this is completely fine.

How about you do your research? The down interferes with heat insulation after the cold season passes so it is mutually beneficial. They are docile during the collection process as shown from several videos of the collection and no harm goes to the ducks or the eggs. The ducks also know that their area in particular is protected from predators. If they were harmed in any way they would've just left and migrated elsewhere. Ignorance isn't a sin but judgement due to ignorance is obnoxious af.

There has been a research from the University of Glasgow that shows that harvesting the nest some time before the eggs hatch doesn't cause any harm to the eggs or the ducklings. I don't like it either but I'm aware that this is harmless. If y'all wanna be so caring about animals, go vegan because the meat and eggs you eat are a sure way of harming animals.

Would just love if people researched before making a snarky comment on harming animals. What are you doing exactly to prevent that? You use tissues, you use modern transportation, you use electricity. At least the farms in iceland benefits both the market and the Eider ducks, what have you done to make a notable change? Pathetic, honestly.

People say stealing , as if the down wasn't taken care of all week long..... Lol chill 😂 A random snake wont even bother it'll eat the eggs whole with the down aswell... The handler gathered the down while protecting the duck with its eggs. ( Watch the full video before judging stupid people... And its just a shedding-cotton feather that was probably bothering the female ducky ). I feel like i'm the only dude educated here seriously 😅
