It is so cool that you can sew someone functional armor. We underappreciate the power of fabric. To have form and fashion from fabric is amazing. This is beautiful.

Very handsome! He really does look amazing. My 2cents on men’s/women’s buttons 🤬 🤬🤬🤬. It’s a waste of my available brainpower trying to remember which is which😂 The only thing dumber is the idea that women only need teeny tiny pockets.

Great doublet and total look. I made one for my son-in-law this summer, or to be accurate i finished and fixed one that was started years ago when he had more weight on him. This was made of 2 layers of heavy twil fabric. It was painful. But the result was great. I added ribbons to decorate it. It was only marginally historical but just for fighting. He hasn't really picked a period and place so it is just generic safety gear. I made a shirt and pants for it too. Again generic, just for fighting. My daughter will make more fancy clothing. The pants and shirt were made mostly from my stash.

This is amazing! And down with the gendering of buttonhole sides! 😆 (honestly I can never remember what side they’re “supposed” to be on)

I have not read The Night Circus, but I just finished The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. I listened to the audiobook and it was probably one of the best books ever. It just happened to be currently available through my library a few weeks ago and I am so glad I jumped on it.

I’m convinced that Morgenstern is a textbook example of “no thoughts just vibes” authorship, and I mean that in the best way

Partner's doublet is a pretty colour. You look in better health since last vlog. Do3s partner hav3 his fencing sword? The new outfit reminds me of several Elixabethan portraits. Leicester's, and Harry Carey comes to mind. Have fun at Gulf War.

So glad to have your company on my journey!! I also just started rolling out late period garb en masse, so this is incredibly helpful. Question: I believe you live in Texas. Do you not find a satin sleeve liner to be too hot?
@beatricewhitcombe6 ай бұрын
(I’m in Trimaris, hence the question)
@OpusElenae6 ай бұрын
I wondered the same thing, but he said because it’s not on his torso, it’s not too bad, and the ease of getting in and out of the doublet without having to wrangle linen-on-linen sleeves makes it worth it. He wanted a heavier satin, but if it was me I’d go with a lighter rayon (so still semi-breathable) lining fabric instead.

You do beautiful work. I'm just surprised you don't use a thimble. You do have to force yourself to use it at first but it doesn't take very long to get used to it and it becomes second nature. The payoff is huges: quicker to hand stitch, smaller stitches and much more comfy fingers steering the needle.
@OpusElenae22 күн бұрын
I do use a thimble all throughout this video? 17:10, 19:08, 21:22, 22:55. I’m confused as to why you don’t think I do.
