The Strasburg Railroad have 1 and that’s a badass. And it’s still pulling freight and passenger cars.

As soon as I saw the diesel my heart dropped, and it's truly funny on my behalf, I have hated diesels since the day my dad said they replaced the steam engines and that was over fifty years ago! There is nothing more thrilling to me than the sights and sounds smells of steam engine, a living breathing machine!

Oh diesels serve purpose for dynamic braking and generate power look at the 844 over Donner pass videos

Bill kriner while steam engines are my personal favorite kind of Locomotive, but I love 1st Generation Diesels, including The F series, and the "General Purpose" or GP. It's also curious to hear that little Tidbit about Walt Disney Supposedly trying to buy her is really incredibly interesting, considering the fact I'm also a Big Disney fan as well as a train fan.

Actually it’s a mandatory 1472 day inspection that is required on ALL steam locomotives

Diesels are more efficient and their higher performances is what causes railroads to favor them of cutting down the jobs and maintenance cost.

Rode on this back in 1996 when it was known as the "Tarantula" train. Went from the South Ft. Worth starting point into the stockyards. Not a fast ride, but the sights and sounds are too cool! Back then there was no diesel loco attached .

I rode it in 97!

On the closeups on the tender you can still make out the tarantula name under the paint, and that will what I will always know her as. I remember riding her multiple times in the mid 90's as a kid with my grandparents. Nostalgia on tracks.

Aww man, I love this locomotive. Me and my grandpa go out sometimes on saturdays to film this beautiful train. I have some videos of it on my channel in action.

I used to live very close to where she lives...but sadly I moved to Houston awhile back. Now I want to go back and see it in action!
@Godzilla691138MW37 жыл бұрын
GrandPrixGTP02 Lol, yeah me too. But for some reasons, I think they stopped running 2248 for a while now because I haven't seen her running and it's always been the diesel itself. I think they might be doing types of repairs on it. I sure hope to see it again soon.

Wow! I never knew about this beautiful engine until now! Gorgeous. She would've been a perfect engine for Disney. Why does Texas State have so man hidden operating steam engines?
@MrBnsftrain6 жыл бұрын
I have a DVD box set of trains that has engine 2248 on the front cover, but it was photshopped so that its railroad markings couldn't be seen ,but the name puffy was left on the side. The passenger cara said "Tarantuala" on the side, and now I know that the livery on that image is a modification to a real ivery!

What a beautiful locomotive. I'm glad that steam trains this old are still around. It definately brings images of the edwardian era back. What was the other locomotive that they had in there?

February 2018... wonder what the work status is on her... I know she was having a new solid boiler being built, to replace the old lap-seam boiler and reduce the downtime.
@Hendo567 жыл бұрын
Aw, always ruins it seeing a diesel on the end. Lovely loco.
@GrandPrixGTP027 жыл бұрын
I agree. There's lots of older videos of her in action where the diesel wasnt attatched to the train. The main reason they have it there is so that they can maneuver the train around when they get to the Fort Worth Stockyards/ Trinity River Loop.

Looks like this was made quite a spell ago I grew up with this engine myself I got to ride in the cab of her in the yard when I was 5 years old for a birthday present when it was still called the tarantula and hopefully she'll be back this coming September of 2021 the sooner the better I miss her so much

Another hot water engine , see the steam coming out of the funnel , means that there is too much water in the boiler causing water to be drawn into the valves and cylinders causing damage .
@meowmichael17547 жыл бұрын
It would have been so awesome to get a good shot of the under belly between the drivers. I'm trying to make a 3D model and this video is one of the best....... but because there are no establishing shots or close ups under the boiler I honestly can't tell where the Stephenson gears are.

Oil fired. Was originally a coal burner as far as I know, but these days she's runs off the oil supply the railroad gets from the FWWR.

You know, if the US can't provide decent public transportation. We could at least restore the steam locomotives in the US and have them run in service or excursion. We may not have high speed transportation like in Europe and in Asia, but you know what? At least we can make it up by having the US running historically, iconic steam locomotives. And that's something Europe and Asia doesn't have.
