Winter season is my favorite around that area. The early black stonefly hatch is reliable and you can find aggressively feeding fish in really shallow spots. And hardly anyone fishes that time of year. Plus it ups your Minnesota cred to fly fish in January and February. Double points if you wet wade. :P

The Driftless Area trout streams could really use a wet spring. Much of the area is still under severe drought conditions. Streams are low, clear and the trout are spooky.

Nope. We have a catch and release season from mid September to Jan 1

Streamers are always good to start with💥💥 slow your retrieve alittle if ther jus nipping in the cold water. I let it dead drift alot and just twitch it. An old rapala countdown trick 😂

Yes that’s a great trick. I was kinda rushing and didn’t think to dead drift it.

Hi Lance, with the streamer fishing at the beginning, are you feeding line so that you are doing more of a dead drift approach than a swing OR feeding line to get the streamer deeper OR some of both? OR am I just a confused commenter! ;) Thank you!
