I agree with what he says about MS, he was the most complete driver IMO. Not just a brilliant driver, but the ability to form a team with best qualities of each team member /technician to bring Ferrari into the winning force that it was.

Yep, I totally agree with Eddie on the "arrogance" part. You simply need to be ruthless and arrogant in a cut-throat sport like Formula 1. You have to think "I'm the best and I alone deserve to win" that's the only way you'll get to the top in F1.

if I was 12 years old i would listen to this and hate Eddie for dissing modern F1 but honestly every time I hear him talking about how F1 has become so diluted, I agree 100% (and remember, if the points system was as it is now in 1999, Irvine would have been champion, but he never mentions this, because thats not important for him. important for him is the entertainment).

P.S. must say, big faux pas to consider Austrians and Germans as the same lol. I had a funny moment in Greece once with an Austrian couple who complained when I mentioned they were speaking in German and I joked that Austrians think Beethoven was Austrian and Hitler was German.....don't ever tell an Austrian he speaks German.

Eddie conveniently forgets to mention Kimi outqualified Pedro in EVERY RACE they were teammates together in 2006 after Montoya left the team. Kimi also beat Pedro in the race that one Bahrain 2005 weekend where Kimi made a mistake on his quali lap. Kimi and Fernando at their peak could give Michael a run for his money.

when you race at the level Eddie raced, you understand what F1 is all about. He was the equivalent of a Bottas today, I don't see what difference winning 5 titles would give anyone in understanding the the environment. Talent just helps you win more, not understand who is fast or what is good or bad for the sport

I would love Eddie Irvines view on my opinion but I doubt he will even read this let alone comment, I know If i was him I would have better things to do like drink more wine. I hate calling myself a fan of either of a driver or a team but I watched every race both Schumacher and Irvine were in and I believe Schumacher to be the best driver in history for many reasons, I still to this day can't understand why Senna was put on a pedestal when he was arrogant, ignorant, a spoiled brat through childish tantrums and a self confessed cheat but praised by the media still to this day (he should have his 2nd title removed from the records and it should be reinstated to its rightful owner Alain Prost), but don't underestimate yourself Eddie we all know Ferrari favoured Schumacher and rightly they should as he was at the forefront of the development of those cars along with Todd, Brawn and Byrne but I believe you showed your ability when Michael broke his leg in 1999 at Silverstone leaving you free to turn the Ferrari into your car to suit your style of driving instead of driving Michaels car with some tweaks and allowing you to almost win the world championship. If you had control of developing the car to suit your type of driving from the start of the season the outcome could have been so different.

Ask Eddie which cars he drives at the moment if it's his old ones or if he's sold his old ones and bought new ones. Also ask how he would pitch F1 to someone who thinks it's just cars going round a track how can it be interesting? Also he's right about the sport needing surprise race win results, long term planning and on some driver opinions. Also ask if he think the points system should be redone for closer championship battles and reducing the reward of winning or keeping the reward of winning but keeping 2nd 3rd etc tighter.

@tucoramirez45586 жыл бұрын
He's greatest achievement was shillin' for Schumacher. No great man or anybody with self-respect ever did that. Nigel Mansell wasn't the best of his time but in his own mind he was. When it comes down to it I (and many others) prefer a narcissist with some qualities over a sycophantic shill. Let me tell you what everybody with half a brain knows: Great men are judged against other great men. Senna had Prost as a team mate and beat him. Hamilton had Alonso as a team mate and beat him - in his rookie season no less, while Alonso came from two consecutive world titles. Schumacher beat... yeah, what great drivers did he have as team mate during his Benetton and Ferrari years? None had even won a single race before joining the team. I'm afraid the likes of Martin Brundle, a 39 year old Riccardo Patrese, Jos Verstappen, JJ Lehto, Johnny Herbert, Eddie himself, Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa can't be compared to the likes of Alain Prost and Fernando Alonso. Senna beat Prost - at the time the most successful F1 driver ever with a record 28 wins and already a two time champion. In the same car. In a team Prost had already driven for for the past 4 seasons. When it comes down to it the current era with two 4-time champions and another 2-time champion who barely missed 3 more titles, not to mention the fresh, new talent like Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo (who beat Vettel btw 3-0 in 2014) is *far* more competitive than Schumacher's era ever was. And while Hamilton vs Vettel might not be Senna vs Prost it's still better than Schumacher vs nothing. Sebastian Loeb was a 9 time straight World Rally champion. Does that make him the best driver ever or just somebody who was good in an era of watered down competition and retiring old greats, many 10-15 years his senior?
@abcde76336 жыл бұрын
what about a young inexperienced schumacher in his very first full season beating a very experienced senna at his peak in 1992? what about schumacher beating nelson piquet despite just being a rookie?

@fam.hunger52442 жыл бұрын
Hamilton beat Alonso...ok. But Schumacher won three titles and fought for another 3 in an inferior car. What has Hamilton achived when you take the best car away? 0 titles, not even 1 fight for a championship. Loosing against Jenson Button - definetely not one of F1s all time greats...winning ans fighting for titles in an inferior car proves superior driving skills. Winning in a dominating car is just delivering. So yes - Hamilton did beat Alonso. But he also did prove he was not able to win championships or even put up a fight for the title without the best car. But thats what all the greats have proven - Jim Clark, Senna, Schumacher- they WERE able to fight for titles in an inferior car. Hamilton is not. So - in relation to driving skills - Schumacher was, without a doubt better than Hamilton. And by the way - one of Schumachers teammates was Piquet, a three times World Champion...Schumacher fought against Senna on the track, one of the best drivers ever...against Häkkinen, who, speedwise was on a similar level to Senna(what his qualifying victory proved in 1993 and Senna being totaly surprised about how he was able to do that...)...and you mention the competition against a Ricardo, who never was able to fight for a title, or a Vettel ,who never was able to put up a close title fight after loosing the dominant car and even lost against an unexperienced team-mate, is a more competitive competition than Senna, Häkkinen, Alonso, Villeneuve, Montoya or Raikönnen in their prime??? Thats definetely a way to proof two things - lack of knowledge, or/and lack of reality. And a Max Verstappen was not a competitor in any way against a car that was so dominant that even a turtle like Bottas was able to win races...only in 2021 he was...and immediately has beaten Lewis! And Verstappens car was, over the course of the season definetely NOT the better car...and if we are talking at Bottas - yes, that was the competitor Lewis had for 5 years...definetely worse than a Massa who almost won the championship, a Irvine who almost won the championship, a Barrichello who was regarded as a big talent, or a Brundle who challenged Senna for the title in F3, or a Piquet who was a three time World Champion...so if you look closely and with some real knowledge - Schumacher had a much harder competition, but did not have the dominant car for many years, and teammates who were not much worse than Hamiltons... Alonso 2 times World Champion-->Piquet three times...Button, not one of the all time greats and not better than Massa. Rosberg was good but the difference between him, Irvine, Barrichello or Brundle was not really high. So the difference between Schumacher and Hamilton only is about one thing - when Schumacher did not have the best or dominating car, he also fought and won titles...Hamilton not. But only fighting and winning titles AGAINST the best car proves superior driving skills and being one of the best ever. Not winning in a dominant car...thats just delivering. And Hamilton was never able to do anything else. Without the best car he was only an also-runner and random winner...Schumacher was able to win the title...against better drivers than Bottas, Ricciardo, Vettel or a Verstappen in a car that was 1 sec./lap slower....
