A drive through of the Berghof area of the Obersalzberg in Berchtesgaden, Germany.

A quick drive through of the principal sights on the Berghof area of the Obersalzberg, Germany followed by some on-the-ground views. I visit Hermann Görings house, SS houses and pass where Hitler had his Berghof (now gone and replaced by trees.
UPDATE 1: As pointed out in a post from GTVi2003 the actual houses of Göring, Hitler etc were destroyed after the war (see the link) so all the houses seen are the replacement houses. Didn't read that before I got there (although I knew the Berghof had been destroyed).
UPDATE 2: Obersalzberg not Obersalzburg. Dooh!

Göring’s house was totally dimolished and it’s not the house you pointed out. At the back of the Kempinski Hotel Berchtesgaden there is a little swamp/lake. That is the exact location you were looking for. The houses near the streets weren’t SS barracks. One was Karl Bödenschatz house, Göring’s adjudant. Guess the surrounding houses were mostly Luftwaffe. The SS barracks were located behind Hotel Zum Türken.

I stayed at Zum Türken with my family in 2004. Although I took some pictures of the inside and outside of the hotel, Frau Scharfenberg was adamant about no video. She scolded me as I was taking a short video inside unaware of her wishes. Great place to stay and she was very friendly otherwise. I read that she passed away in 2013 and that the hotel was sold a couple of years ago. It was a fascinating place to home base for exploring the historic area.

I hope Bavaria Maintains Obersalzberg,(protect and maintain), I.E.- Kehlsteinhaus,(Road,Tunnel, and the Elevator), German Engineers and Road and Tunnel Workmen did what looked Impossible!

Actually the destruction of the Berghoff started in 1950 and the last remains were finally destroyed in the 1990's. Except for the retaining walls. Finally, they planted trees in the place... and a plaque for the tourists. Thanks to the Bavarian governnent...

I’m as sure as I can be that that’s not Goerings house as that was destroyed in a bombing raid and is now the site of the Kempinski hotel duck pond. That’s his adjutants house.

I would love to travel to the obersalzberg area for the historical significance of the area plans that were discussed and probably ordered carried out would have impacted my dad he served in the United states Navy during wwll as several of my uncles who served in the United states army and my Grandpa and great uncle served in France in ww1. I've never even been to Europe I do plan on going God willing.
