if there's an "aesthetic" that i adore is road trips and sights. that feeling of listening to music while looking out the window seeing all the gorgeous highway and all the sights it has to show you giving you something to look foward too in an 8 hour trip to the north or looking down an airplane and seeing your homecity from above at night its honestly amazing. whether its monuments or cities or forests it brings me so much of this unexplained happiness. whenever i think about it i feel happy, it always gets me out of a mood and gives off this "hey its gonna be alright" sort of feeling. edits of shows i like also bring out this feeling but not as much as what i stated before. VAPORWAVE TOO I LOVE THAT

Fooly Cooly really does look amazing. Another anime that looks amazing I think is the entire monogatari series. Bakemonogatari especially. It has this slight haze on the screen that makes it look like an older anime. It’s like a slight blur that makes it so you can tell it was animated back in 2010. The backgrounds and all the different shots they do while talking is really good too. I also love how the character change their clothes sometimes, makes it feel more realistic.

Speaking of aesthetics, in the case of music, the Phonk genre often uses "VHS overlay tapes" in videos and it really caught my eye. It generates sensations of that kind of nostalgia that you never experienced because it feels like going back in time to see scenes from movies/series/anime/games of the moment with "soft" (I think) saturated colors and noise generated by the tapes. As for the music, vinyl record noise is often used for "Memphis rap" style. It ins't something particular to us because those styles are inspired by the Lo-Fi and Vaporwave genres that also use that type of aesthetic. It surprises me that this gives me feelings of being in the past as if I were living it.

This is basically why I am so into comics and animation compared to cinema and tv-series. From an artistic perspective, even the most incredible cinematic shot and edit will be dependant on how stuff looks like in reality. Real things have a weight and a "presence" in the physical world that limits how much special effects will look legit. This can still lead to genre defining visuals such as Blade Runner (Daily reminder, the film is 2 years older than Neuromancer!), but such results are often limited in time, as soon they will appear outdated or at least lose part of what made them look so good. Again, there are exceptions, but this is the average. On the other hand, animation and drawn media have the luxury to be separated from real world technological evolution and from the weight of physicality. A drawning can be anything you want and, if done right, it will look good decades after. Of course it will feel old, but this doesn't take away the value it has. It was just done differently in a different time, but its aesthetic and beauty is untarnished. A well edited photo of a place or a person may do the same, but it's static. Photography it's about capturing a moment, animation is about using the limitations of a not realistic portrayal of something to enhance what you can do with it. Or maybe, all of this is just an excuse to explain why even if Cyberpunk was born out of neo-noir novels and cinema of the West, it without a doubt peaked into anime and the artworks of the TTRPG "Shadowrun"

the darkness of night is the aesthetic for tired eyes. a call of the void if you will, but the feeling of knowing no one is watching is so liberating. i can exit my shell and be myself. a blueish purple night is a rare treat and guarantees i'll be on a walk with no one around. the loneliness can be depressing, so i bring a friend and we screw around and also appreciate the night. my headphones, black sweatshirt, and sneakers are the clothing i consider universal for night owls like me. i wish there was a pair of glasses that gave the old vhs tape look or a purple night sky. the reason we stay up at night is because we are not satisfied with what we did during the day.

I love that "Everywhere At The End Of Time" reference. For those who don't know, "Everywhere At The End Of Time" is an ambient album about dementia that serves as the first of 6 albums that represent stages of dementia, each album represents a stage, in this case, stage 1. There are actually 7 stages of dementia but only six albums because the first stage of dementia is normal behavior.

Nothing will EVER beat the aesthetic of 90s animation as a whole for me. No matter how good animation gets nowadays, it'll never be quite the same as the old styles that came prior.
