@@ayr1225 or maybe it's the fact that the song is over 20 years old? Stop being such a whiny boy baby. I love old AFI myself, but I'm not going to blame their change on anything but the makers of the music themselves. And guess what? I'd change the tone of my jams too to distance myself from fans like you.

Saw this on a KoRn counts down their favorite videos or something on MTV in like, 1998 and fell madly in love with AFI (and Davey, obviously). My favorite album for sure. That’s also the show that introduced me to Refused so... thanks KoRn, I guess.

even if you don't like their new output, you can still appreciate the fact that they're making well-crafted music at the very least. not to mention that they're still full-time professional musicians after well over two decades together as a band - and that's just with the current members, not even counting pre-Black Sails. it's honestly remarkable.

all these people complain about the comments saying how afi has changed, most likley are people who never even heard of AFI until ms murder and December underground.. they have not idea what its like having a favorite band, switch styles.. i think its really funny to see people complain how CL was not like DU and they were mad at the change back towards their old style..ill never forget the first time i listen to DU, i believe i had it downloaded a week or 2 early, driving to Hershey park and being so dissapointed.. i was like "what the hell is this shit.. i waited 3 years for this bullshit?" people pissed because a person doesnt like a bands new stuff.. a person can be pissed about what ever they want.. if they dont like a bands new direction then they sure as hell can express that

AFI were awesome then, and they're awesome now. And I agree with that most recent comment. The entitlement some fans feel is ridiculous. You don't have a right to demand anything of them. You can be a fan, buy their albums, and go to shows, but you're not entitled to anything else, especially not for them to make music that you want for no other reason that you want it. Change is a part of life, and they're all almost forty now. They're not going to be making the same music that they did in their twenties, and to expect them to? Is just utterly ridiculous.
@Jedhaase
@Jedhaase 10 жыл бұрын
Dude, they obviously sold out. Every knows this and this is why everyone is disappointed with AFI now. Its not that ridiculous. Also, I honestly do expect people to stay the same, and I know many bands and people that have, even WAY longer than this band to. Look up keith morris. He has been in hardcore punk music since the 70s and he still is to this day, and now hes like 58 years old.
@Jedhaase
@Jedhaase 10 жыл бұрын
Hummng Brd No, they clearly sold the fuck out. They leave nitro records and sign up to major labels, dreamworks and then interscope records afterwards. And then they instantly started making trendy music, putting up videos on mtv, and started selling way more records then they did before. And in AFI interviews in 2000 Davey kept saying that all he wanted was for people to hear their music and get AFI noticed, even if its getting on the radio, mtv, etc. I highly doubt they instantly and completely changed their style and did all this other stuff because they were "sick of making the same music". To me it looks they were actually sick of not having the amount of popularity and money they wanted. And I can still understand that people can get sick of the music they make, but also most of the time when musicians start to make other types of music they start new bands and not totally change the band that they were already in.
@apersonontheinternet424
@apersonontheinternet424 10 жыл бұрын
Jedhaase But they didn't just instantly change between albums all of a sudden. The first two albums were very similar/the same, but SYMAOYE was different, and Black Sails was quite different. They've said multiple times that even back then everyone freaked out when Black Sails came out, and started calling them sellouts then! They were still on Nitro at the time. Dude, are you even reading your comment? What do you want, for them to be unknown starving artists forever? If being a 'sellout' is just making a living and being more widely appreciated for what you do, who are you to begrudge them that? They've worked really hard to get where they are. Don't you think they deserve success? Anyway, I don't think that they're sellouts. They worked for around ten years before they got anything even achieving mainstream success, which I mean, they didn't turn it down, but that wasn't their sole goal. They just wanted to do what they loved. And if they can make a living at the same time, that's great.
@Jedhaase
@Jedhaase 10 жыл бұрын
Alecia G Yes they did instantly change between albums. Not the first two obviously, but compare the art of drowning to sing the sorrow. Everyone is always saying the art of drowning is the last good AFI album. And I don't remember AFI saying multiple times that everybody freaked out and called them sellouts over black sails in the sunset. Show me an interview / video. Also, I don't think AFI were "unknown starving artists". We all know they weren't really popular back then but we all obviously know they weren't some band playing at house parties forever. They had fans and people coming to their shows. And please read the beginning of my comment again. I don't think making a living is selling out, but I did explain why I think they did sell out.

Everyone may have different opinions on the direction AFI took. But one thing's for sure, the fact that AFI went major and changed so much makes their older material much more precious and lovable. Because if they had just remade Very Proud of Ya six times over, everything they made in the 90s would become cheap.
