Specialists are always reconstructing faces from the long deceased but I wonder how accurate they are. I'm curious to know if there have been any blind reconstructions where an artist, who has never seen the decedent, reconstructs their faces and then has his work compared to an actual photograph of the deceased?
@spatrk66343 жыл бұрын
because they have a skull. and muscles and skin goes in particular places on that skull places like nose and ears would be hardest to accuretly reconstruct because you lack cartlidge
@bondjames-bond76642 жыл бұрын
There's a ten percent accuracy I guess .... It's very difficult to recreate someone's face only by a skull ....
@SafetySpooon Жыл бұрын
I have always wanted to see 2 entirely different/deparate artists work on the same skull, & see how well their results match.
@lauratreasures3816 Жыл бұрын
There have been some skulls where they use this process to reconstruct what they may have looked like and later when the human remains were finally identified (matched to a missing person and it confirmed by DNA) they have been able to compare photos of the person when they were alive to the reconstruction. I wish I could remember where I saw some examples. I am on some facebook groups about missing persons as well as unidentified remains. I was doing some research online when I stumbled across some examples.

There is actually a documentary about a Thailander woman that was killed by her American husband. Her skull we're found accidentally in wooded area they reconstructed her face and put it on a television news and her friends recognized her face and they were able to put her husband to prison for murdering her. Her husband told her friends that she had left him and went back home to Thailand but was actually killed by him. The reconstructed face actually looks very similar.
@yoriyasuhiro66782 жыл бұрын
Mate it's called modern science, I mean no disrespect. In science it has to work every single time and failure is never an option. Therefore, I've no doubt in science whatsoever and it's indeed spot on.

I've seen some of these forensic reconstructions before and when compared to the real person they don't resemble them that much. Its all in the forensic artist's head.
@emilywilson99644 жыл бұрын
Robert G that’s not always true. There is a forensic reconstruction project going on in Canada using the skulls of Jane and John Does, and the busts created from those have been used to identify missing people and get the remains returned to the family. Sure, things like the way the hair is worn and even sometimes eye color are up for interpretation, but the bones don’t lie.
@tiffmonique71544 жыл бұрын
Agreed
@juandavidrestrepoduran60074 жыл бұрын
Robert G it never pretends to be 100% accurate but it tries to be as accurate as scientifically possible. The reason being, we can reconstruct the muscular structure and so on, but there are things that the bones may not tell us, if the bones don’t have dna that hasn’t been contaminated, or worse, no longer have dna, things like the color of the skin, the eyes, the hair, the structure of the hair, and so on, may not be possible to reconstruct at all, which leaves us in the territory of guessing. Plus, tattoos, scars that didn’t leave hints on the bone, amongst other things, won’t be present in the reconstruction.Body constitution presents us with the same case, if there’s no way to tell if this person was strong, fat, skinny, etc... it won’t be 100% accurate, but it’ll be accurate enough that we may be able to recognize the deceased if we brought it back to life. Otherwise police departments wouldn’t spend money in the forensic artists that use clay or digital tools to help them solve cases about unidentifiable remains. It’s not it their heads BTW, artistic license isn’t allowed and the features that can’t be established by literal evidence are established by the probability of occurrence based on the facts they do have of the body, eg: there’s no way to tell the color of skin, eyes, and hair of the reconstructed person I’m doing, but based on his (let’s say this one is a male) bone structure, I know this one was a male of European descent, and I’m in the US. It’s likely this person is of Germanic descent, therefore it’s likely that he was blond with blue eyes/light eyes and with pale skin (this last one I can be sure due to the established ethnic origin of the bones). It’s likely that I’m not too far from the truth.

While there are a number of attempted "reconstructions" of Hatshepsut's face, this is the only one forensically obtained directly from authorized access to Hatshepsut's skull and MRI's, and is authoritative. Remarkably, it is also the most attractive to modern sensibilities.

indeed. That was a scientific flaw. Just because the skul is found in some area of the world and asuming the current people living there must be descendents or relativ close related to the owner of the skull is just fooling around, ofcourse the end result will be that it shows a face simelar to modern egyptians.
