My Dad's dementia gave him a break from lifelong anxiety . He was not tormented by worry. He was the sweetest, kindest man and just became sweeter and kinder. Since his short term memory was almost non existent he truly lived in the moment . He knew us all. Jason and you are a precious couple.

I've been told that any time you make renovations in your home, it is best to make changes that work best for you rather than worry about what a future owner might want. There is no way to know and a new owner can and will make changes that they want. Good luck, Leslie.

I think that the respite care for you is great! In Washington state families who have a family member that needs continuous care/supervision, the state pays them an hourly wage which is cheaper than a facility. Those $$ can be used to pay someone else as needed for respite. Because no matter how much you love someone, everyone needs a break , and time to run errands, have lunch with a friend, or go to the dentist.

Our Master has just a shower . We have enjoyed it so much and if I feel like soaking use the hall bath. If you haven’t used that tub for 21 years, you don’t need a tub in that bathroom at all. No one will care and they’ll still buy a beautiful house. Also # two is what I would pick too.🙏🏽😍

My initial thought before you even mentioned it, is option 2. I get the whole “needing” a tub, but as long as there’s one in another bathroom, I feel that would be fine. I know whatever you end up choosing will be beautiful.

Option #2 for sure! You will love how opening up that wall transforms your space and you do NOT need a bathtub (I only used mine for washing babies and dogs 😄) ! Can't wait to see how it turns out! Also I just ordered your fall essentials makeup! You didn't mention eyeliner, what do you use for that? Your eyes always look so beautifully defined but not "made up". God bless you, Jason and your family.

I am always amazed Jason can do so much with tools. My husband has FTD and has had it for years. He functioned well until 2020. Now, he doesn’t do well with any repairs. Taking trash out is a major upheaval for him. My brother died today from chemotherapy given to him for his brain cancer. He rang the bell a couple of months ago, but the chemotherapy really knocked his body out. He died peacefully this morning in hospice with his devoted wife and daughter by his side. In the last seven years I have lost both of my parents and my only sibling now. I take care of my husband also. It has been a sad, sad day for me. So enjoyed your day in the life. You and Jason continue to be on my prayer list.

Several years ago we took out a jacuzzi tub that I basically dusted every week and we put in a large shower with a bench. We LOVE it! We also have another bathroom with a tub. I think as long as you have a tub somewhere, it's fine. Go with option 2. Make your house beautiful for YOU and don't worry about resale. New people will change things regardless, and something you thought was awesome will be gone! That's just how it is. We are in our 70's and we did put in a stylish S curved grab bar that doesn't look like an institution. It's like a rail. That was a good decision and it was easier to add it during the remodel, than to try and add it later. Good luck, have fun picking stuff out, and share some pictures!

Enjoyed the video. I am mid 60 and watching the Golden Bachelorette. I have, off and on, watched the Bachelor and Bachelorette over the years. What stands out to me is the HUGE difference in the way the contestants of my Golden Bachelorette generation treat each other. They are so kind and caring towards each other. So different from the hate and drama on the shows with the younger generations. It feels that people are quickly moving in the wrong direction and I am thankful to a part of MY generation. Has anyone else watching the Golden Bachelorette noticed this?

Same here @leek7987! These people of our generation are bonding, sharing and caring for each other..no petty dramas, in fighting or backstabbing. The men are all becoming friends & are APPRECIATING community & togetherness, their TIME left on this earth & learning & sharing from & with each other! Huge difference & I’m luving it! 💗👱🏼‍♀️👨🏼‍🦳Survivor watcher too but that’s a whole other thing. ;)

Hi Leslie, my 57 yr old husband has early onset dementia and he is very aware and super frustrated when he can’t do things and is aware he can’t. His short term is awful, long term is good. His depth perception isn’t good and getting worse. The most frustrating I think, for him, he can’t follow simple instructions, no concept of left or right, up or down and his sight is not good. Have been told by drs. their vision can be tunnel with no peripheral vision. It is definitely not an easy road and wouldn’t wish on anyone. Thanks for your channel, good to know others situation. Leslie, my mom has vascular dementia, and I’m also always amazed at the way she is (sometimes) able to describe the dementia. For example, this past spring she got a head-cold which really set her back, gave her apraxia (of speech & gait), etc. She was trying to find the perfect word to describe the apraxia, and she said, “It’s like…a blur between my brain and my legs, my brain and my mouth…” I’m always wishing I had a film crew with me to capture her observations because I think others would be intrigued to hear her description of the experience. It sounds like you have that too with Jason!

Option 2. We remodeled our large 1992 bathroom in 2014 (also had carpet and a jacuzzi tub😂). We eliminated our tub (which we never used!) We had a bench with storage drawers under it built in, and it looked fantastic. We had two other tubs in the house. It was never an issue when we sold our home in 2020 with multiple offers.

When I shower I tend to get cold if the curtain is not pulled totally closed. When I think of those really large walk-in showers, I think of how cold it will be in it because there is no curtain and the second thing I think about is what a lot of work it would be to clean it! I would do option #2 but without a tub. You have others. Not a deal breaker.

Regarding your bathroom.....think of the future. When we built our home, we thought about rolling a wheelchair into the shower....so the shower is wider and there are no doors and there is a large built-in bench seat. We're so VERY GLAD we did it. We do not have a tub. Also we don't have a toilet closet.....it's open with hand rails on both sides. The shower has rails on 4 sides.

Jason is so funny, I love when he agrees to be filmed. You are so calm and patient with him. He is very lucky to have you. Easy, peasy ! Omit the shower in the same room with the toilet, and put it where the garden tub is (plumbing is already there). Enclose window but leave 12" h x 5' w window for privacy and light in the shower. Where the current shower is now, install built-in cabinets all the way to the ceiling (easiest and cheapest way); or better, switch the toilet where the current shower is and enclose it for total privacy and install built-in cabinets where the current toilet is now. Leave the sink area, just update with new cabinet, sinks and faucets if desired. New lighting, of course and NO carpet ! No matter what, you have such wonderful taste, when you are finished, it will be beautiful.

Love watching you guys Leslie. I don’t know anyone suffering from this but it is heart-wrenching to watch, so I can imagine living it. I was wondering, after watching for a while now, and hearing you talk about the way things were and how he hurts your feelings sometimes…does this disease cause people to lose their empathy? I see him hurt your feelings and you tell him but there seems to be a disconnect with what that really means. Much love and prayers from another Christ follower in Dublin, Ga. USA. 🥰

Number 2! As long as there is a bathtub somewhere in the house it won’t effect resale!

I absolutely love your channel. I am so happy for both of you that Jason is still able to do so many projects and small tasks like taking care of his birds. You two are amazing and i always look forward to whatever content you put up.

Option 2, walk in shower perfect and you don’t need the ‘dust collector’. Tubs are good for babies, not needed in the master bathroom. Walk in robe more essential! Loved this video Leslie seeing the love between you and Jason 😘😘
