You can cycle from Bermondsey in south London to Paddington in west central London about 40 minutes, entirely on quiet streets and protected cycled lanes.
The route is about 6.4 miles long (10.3km) and makes use of Cycleway 4, Cycleway 14, the Baylis Road and Westminster Bridge cycle tracks, plus Cycleway 3. It also takes in the new Park Lane cycleway, a short section of Cycleway 27, and a few cut-throughs of my own creation... it covers a lot, actually!
The 40 minute journey time isn't much longer than taking the Tube, a journey for which you would normally have to change trains in any case.
