certainly sad for them to be going. growing up in North wales during the mid to late 00s, i'd see them at Chester station and they always intrigued me. We never went up the Wirral, always towards Manchester, so the Merseyrail trains had a sense of wonder and adventure about them. First couple of times going on them felt like I was going to a whole new world as a child thanks to that. When you mention Merseyrail to me, I'll always think of a 508 disappearing down the Wirral from Chester's platform 7.

A shame that a bit of yellow vinyl wasn't applied on the cab ends to cover the black "eyebrows" surrounding the head/tail/marker lights to make it look a little more authentic. I'll be nice though - it's a nice sendoff (I bet the 777s won't last as long as the 507/8s have) - and not mention the fact that Southern did the same a few years ago with 313201 🙃

That livery is NOT original. The doors are not accurate. The old BR livery was uniform with no hideously different coloured doors.

Thats because EU regulations require train doors to be a contrasting colour to aid visibly impaired people who can see bus doors OK so they can be the same colour as the rest of the vehicle

@@nigelkthomas9501 We should help our less able population but what bugs me is how inconsistent these regulations are. Some like painting doors on trains in a contrasting colour make no sense to me when busses, taxies can be in a uniform colour. The one that really bugs me is the stand back behind the yellow line. It is obvious it is dangerous to stand near the edge of a platform where a train may pass at 125 mph so why do we put the tactile paving telling the visually impaired they are close to the edge of the platform on the dangerous side of the yellow line, surely it should be on the safe side of it. These regulations were brought in by the EU but I guess are here to stay now. These days it is all about paper work not common sense. Can't even move a train 5 yards to get a disabled passenger on because it is not written in the train management rules What a crazy railway it is today. kzbin.info/www/bejne/haW2oo2igr57ebM
@atakd8 ай бұрын
The new trains are a disgraceful waste of money, as is this grandstanding. Maybe the money could have been invested in e-ticketing technology for the only train operator in the country without it. But that wouldn't look so good on KZbin, would it? So screw the passengers.
@simplesimon28028 ай бұрын
boo - the old trains are being (have been) withdrawn throughout the UK as they are life expired - the new trains are worth the money as they bring the fleet in to the present era.
@atakd8 ай бұрын
Life expired in what way? No cancellations from failed rolling stock - ever. Just a case of let's spend other people's money on shiny shiny whilst we charge rip off fares: £3.40 to cross the Mersey one way. It's cheaper for a single person to drive, including tunnel toll and HMRC mileage allowance, for the trip than for me to travel on Merseyrail with my bike. A fucking disgrace and waste of public money.
@gwrydd8 ай бұрын
It’s honestly a disgrace that they don’t accept etickets in the 21st century. This is exactly why I travel with tfw instead of Merseyrail to Chester
@simplesimon28027 ай бұрын
@@gwrydd only to an extent. I use Oyster in London but primarily for simple station to station travel. If travelling all day its better to use 'pay once, ride at will' paper tickets as these do not have time limits on journeys and work better with complex journeys.

@@atakd Wow. There is no way you would allow nearly 50 year old buses on the roads and yet some like you want 50 year old trains. Give it another 5 - 8 years they would need another overhaul and with parts being scarce to source, Merseyrail made the right decision. The 507's are a fine train, for the 1980's - 1990's. No tfor the 21st Century.
