I don't know if someone told you about it but the results of the miss fairy tail contest were real results of a popularity poll that was done on the girls. This was the first and only time that Erza won a popularity poll. Lucy is the character that always places first in manga popularity polls. 1) In the poll of the spin off called fairy girls lucy placed first 2) In the poll that the manga had in 2014, Lucy was first with a difference of more than 3,000 votes compared to the second place that was Natsu. 3) The last poll in 2022, lucy was first with a difference of more than 4300 votes compared to the second place that was erza. (in this last oficial poll everyone had the opportunity to vote since it was done online, I voted for lucy since she deserves to win) The manga has had 4 polls, of which Lucy has won 3, being the most popular and beloved character in the mashima fandom.
