A Father’s Arms Gavin Dunne 2018
In the arms of the father
In my frozen spirit
Is a chaos quenched in cold
Still smouldering in the ashes of my soul
On the hunt relive it
For the cub must learn his role
To clench all the reckless rage into control
Steel and rags are covering the shame
In the arms of the father
Marks of a history
Old tales on the water
Cold affinity
In the arms of the father
Scars of a past concealed
In the cracks in the armour
Brands of regret beneath the steel
In the steps and stories
These lessons must be learned
I bear the resent of sorrow in return
Gods and titans shudder at the name
In the arms of the father
Marks of a history
Old tales on the water
Cold affinity
In the arms of the father
Scars of a past concealed
In the cracks in the armour
Brands of regret beneath the...
Steel and rags still covering the shame
Gods and titans shudder at the name
Fall to the pain again
Ash on the pyre
Call to the rage again
Borne back to the fire...
I am chaos
I am war
I am fury
And I am yours no more
In the arms of the father
Marks of a history
Old tales on the water
Cold affinity
In the arms of the father
Scars of a past concealed
In the cracks in the armour
Brands of regret beneath the steel
Beneath the steel

Absolutely - Kratos' maturity for the sake of his son is incredibly touching. He's managed to master the rage that once ruled him. For the sake of his child and the effort to make sure Atreus doesn't make his mistakes - with the old God of War only emerging when his son is in danger.

ok I have to say I love how this one doesnt just do "a clever nod" but openly acknowledges the past god of wars but mix with the new one, just like the new god of war. It has it in there, and even the lil smidges of the old theme in there are fantastic. this is what I like, its not just a reference but instead embraces the old with the new. its a god of war song

@@TheBook778 I was hoping someone would be, so thank you. Before I start though, I want to preface by saying that I have not played either Doom, nor yet played any GoW games other than the original, 2, and Chains of Olympus, and that this is a general idea and if I _were_ to ever write this some degree of it would probably change. That said, (clears throat): The story would be set during Kratos' assault on Olympus, with Zeus deciding they need reinforcements as the both the Titans and Kratos fight further and further up the mountain (I intend to go more in-depth with the War and not dismiss the Titans like the game did). He finds Hell and agrees to help the demons get rid of a certain imprisoned entity if they will fight. Naturally, the new army causes trouble for Kratos and the Titans coupled with a more forceful assault from the Gods, and eventually they are at the mercy of the demons. In comes Doomguy, who has been freed due to an accident during his attempted additional imprisonment by the Gods, and is pissed that they are allying with the demons. To that end, he somewhat inadvertently rescues Kratos and the Titans. They form a rather loose alliance, and Kratos and Doomguy play off of each other as they kill their way through monsters, Gods, and demons, with perhaps some funny moments being had from Kratos' hamminess and Doomguy's muteness. I would also probably have the whole Pandora's Box thing go very differently, and Kratos improving more gradually due to Doomguy's more altruistic nature contrasting his own selfishness, leading to his decision at the end to be based on Doomguy's opinion as well as his own revelation. I would then either end it on a cliffhanger where they go after the fleeing demonic horde, with Kratos surprisingly (or not) electing to join the Doomguy in finishing his work with him, or they simply part ways with respect, and perhaps Kratos nodding to traveling to other lands and searching for a better life, with Doomguy giving his approval and well-wishes. Those are all of the relevant points I can think of, so please tell me what you think. This idea would be far in the future if I ever do it at all (like 5 years to a full decade at least), but I would love to do it at some point, and hear feedback on it at least for the moment. Also, there _is_ a crossover already, but set in the Norse Era-www.fanfiction.net/s/13166292/1/God-of-War-The-Coming-of-Doom

I love the scene after the Troll/Giant(I can't remember which it is) busts through the door, after it throws Atreus down and goes to grab him, Kratos legitimately shoving his arm in that mouth to stop it from bitting his sun. This game and the connection between them is amazing
@pepelefrog3697
@pepelefrog3697 3 жыл бұрын
This was also a plot point- atreus had no business attacking the troll, and the troll most likely wouldn't have gone for atreus as long as kratos was beating down on it. Atreus's lack of control caused him to act erratically, doing minimal damage and putting himself in more danger, causing Kratos to get harmed in the process trying to save him.

Nerdout made a horrible electronic music choice, which completely ruined it even before the guy started rapping. JT is a lot better, i'd even listen to it again. But Gavin is a true maestro of game/cinema-inspired songs, working with the atmosphere of the game/film when creating music, instead of just the story like the rest of them, and then nailing lyrics on top of it. There is also Dan Bull, rather good, but his GoW rap just feels wierd.

I heard all three versions uploaded, but I don't think I can notice much difference. That said, I was liking the third time more even before I read the explanation post, but that's probably because the song was finally back and because I grew more attached (like usual) on repeat listenings (But some songs I do fall in love on the first time, like Machine Hearts).

I saw a comment that the other God of War 4 song, To Be Better, is how Kratos sees himself. A dangerous man who has done horrible things in his rage and now must control it when he fights, lest he damn the Norse world as well as the Greek one. While this song is how Atreus sees Kratos- badass, powerful and trying to teach him how to be a good warrior. I can see where they got that idea. There is a really good contrast between this song and To Be Better. Both are really good.

blarg2429 I was more thinking they were talking about the songs feel, not the 'they're all Vikings' kind of things, We are War is done in a very similar style, but Nord Mead most certainly is not the same style. Also, We are War isn't specifically about Vikings, it is about all of the groups in the game For Honor. Btw, in old Norse culture 'Vikings' weren't a people group, it was an occupation, namely those who went and raided other peoples at the time, which was called going 'I-Viking,' and depending on the translation, it could also be 'A-Viking,' depending of which dialect of Norse you used.

I love this song and also it's name, as literally "in the arms of the farther" is where kratos past is shown and how he tries to hide it and it's also the answer to all atreus's (not sure if I spelt that right) questions as to where he comes from on his farthers side. It was where the story began the very chains burnt into kratos, the arms that were the cause of his skin becoming white, the same arms that now defend his son. Perfect title for a perfect song to represent the entire series. Fantastic work Gav, I cannot wait to see what you do next!
