She will be one of the greatest pianists of all time. However, the above commentary is incorrect in saying Sasha is 15. She is now (as of March, 2022) 14 years and 8 months old. She will turn 15 this July. I'm so glad to see that, at least at the time of this concert, she was out of Russia and concertizing. She had many dates lined up in Europe for this coming spring and summer, and now with the widespread embargoes on Russian athletes and artists, at least some of these engagements must be in doubt. I sincerely pray that Putin's war does not harm her or her career in any way. Alexandra is the best of Russia. God bless her.

I agree 100% and I also am entirely against punishing those in the arts and athletics for Putin's crimes, even if they erroneously support him. Putin is the worst of Russia, and should be stopped. I don't agree that supporters of this obscene war against the Ukrainian people should be given platforms abroad where they can proudly display their "Z" emblems and make speeches. But Alexandra has made no such sign, and I would be amazed if she did. A girl with a talent that is seen only once in a century, and yet carries herself with so much quiet dignity and modesty, just the opposite of the murderous narcissism of Vladimir Putin. Alexandra should be encouraged and embraced by the entire human race. Putin is the obsolete past; Sasha is the future.

@@ddgyt50 This may not be the best place to talk about it here, but it was you who started it with a big stereotype, crudely thrown out to the mass of the so-called "international community", the Atlanticist one, in fact, which is now well isolated: Putin, indeed, is a gift to the world and should be treated as such. Alexandra Dovgan is only 15 but already has established herself as a top pianist. It's interesting to hear her various You Tube videos tracing her progress from a 6 year old forgetting the Bach she was playing at the piano students' recital in 2014 to the polished performer we see here. She just keeps getting better. There's a real maturity in her playing that most child prodigies don't have. She seems an old soul in a young body. I just typed a very large paragraph and a bloody advert came up and deleted it - but what I'd said was, she's no longer a 'potent' pianist - she's already performing at the highest level many pianists will acheive in their lives - I personally regard her as one of the very best pianists in the world, she has the musicality many modern day pianists lack, as well as the technical security some of the greats like Cortot lacked, and her volume of repertoire is absolutely astonishing at only 14 - not to mention, everything she plays is so thoughtfully and brilliantly conveyed/interpreted and technically mastered, she delivers such quality without considering the number of immensely challenging pieces she's conquered, I've never been so impressed by any artist before - I'll be blessed to enjoy her performances for most of the duration of my life (being not a lot older than her)

Hoy interpretó un programa largo y difícil, aunque tratando de música clásica todo es difícil: Beethoven, Schumann y las cuatro baladas de Chopin, más las propinas. En mi opinión toca con mucha intensidad y a la vez con intimismo. It was bittersweet to listen to Aleksandra Dovgan's wonderful performance in Budapest yesterday and be reminded that she is the true representative of the Russia I honor, not the thug who let loose her uniformed countrymen to reconquer Ukraine next door to Hungary. At the same time as she was bringing us to tears with her play, one tram stop away from the venue of the concert, at Nyugati railway terminal, every hour hundreds of Ukrainian refugees, mostly mothers and children were (are) getting off the train, trying to find shelter and a way to put together their shattered life again.

Indeed, it makes me profoundly sad, even in the light of Alexandra's gift to us.

@@wlj344 While I would be happy if she did speak out against Putin, I would never require a 15 year old pianist to do so. You and I know nothing about what sort of sacrifice that would take. There is family, there is school, there even is the threat of prison. "Parading her talent" is what she can do to make the world a better place and IMHO she should go on doing that for our sakes.

@@wlj344 She is, as all working people are. Not going to any cultural event that has anything to do with Russia unless in aid of Ukraine is a hard choice. I would certainly not attend anything where artists who are vocal supporters of Putin perform. But Dovgan? Or Sokolov, who has lived in Italy for many years? Or concerts that have nothing to do with living Russian artists? IMHO one needs culture in hard times too, arguably, even more.

@@wlj344 Detestation of all things Russian (including vodka, Dostoyevsky and Shostakovich) is a misplaced kneejerk reaction to be avoided. Not even people directly affected (like the refugee lady from Kyiv whom I most recently put up in Budapest and with whom I spoke Russian) would react like that.

@@wlj344 I share your righteous anger. No need to expound: as I mentioned, I live and work in Budapest, and I try to help refugees. But I still think you are missing your target. My thinking is that here are so many other ways one can help suffering Ukraine and express what one thinks of Putin and the aggressors, stopping a 15-year-old pianist who never spoke up for Putin, never even voted for him from bringing joy to audiences around the world should not be one of those. Can we agree to differ on this?
