Nice haul of crabs for this time of year, I second Tony's tip and may I add that to check if a crab is full, you squeeze the white under-side of the crab called the branchial chamber not the claws which will always be hard unless the crab has just molted it's old shell. Located just under where you were measuring the crabs on the lateral spine of the carapace. Also when they have that green/blue colour and white on the bottom is the best time to eat a crab. Compared to when they get that rusting colouring on the bottom of the shell, the meat will get a bit stringy at this stage as they are about to molt again.

Almost smell that good-ol two stroke from here… I find that taping their claws to their body (same as you would tie them) makes them less likely to throw a claw, just uses a bit more tape.

I'm a bit over muddies but sand crabs which I prefer are rare as hens teeth where I am in north Queensland.
