A final FAREWELL to Loganair's Saab 340

Loganair & the Saab 340 have been the main way of flying domestically within Scotland for over 24 years! Now however Loganair are Retiring their Saa340's inf avour of the ATR 42 & ATR 72 aircraft. Loganair however are sending the Saab 340 out in style allowing the flying public one last chance to fly on the Saab 340. That is what we are doing this week we are flying on Loganair's Saab 340 Farewell flight that will take up from Glasgow International airport up and over the scottish islands in a circuit. Once we have seen the scottish isles we land back down into Glasgow airport.
Afterwards we also have a hanger tour book to go and see the other Saab 340's that are being retired as well as a Twin Otter & ATR 42 that are in the hanger for maintenance. Loganair opened up all the aircraft for people to look around the Twin Otter. ATR & Saab 340 which honestly was amazing of them, plus Loganair was using this event to raise money for the charity Cham.

I remember the very first commercial flight in my life when I was a small boy was in the Saab 340 operated by Northwest Airlines from KSBN to KORD. That is why for me the Saab 340 will always have a spot in my heart in aviation.

I was on the flight before this one, I see myself in the group posing for a pic outside before you boarded. I hope your seat was still warm, I was in it just before you. Great little flight, albeit very short. It gave me the chance to fly on the Loganair Saab 340 in BA, Flybe and Loganair schemes. I've flown on them all around the Outer Hebrides and Orkney too. She'll be missed alright.

I've flown on a few of the Saab's to Benbecula and Sumburgh for work, I remember some of the parts I was taking with me being strapped to a seat next to me. I always wore headphones due to the noise :D

Great video Dom. Pleased you managed to show Jonathan Hinkles towards the end of the flight. He's stepping down with immediate effect. One wonders how Loganair will fare in future, Domestic aviation is challenging according to consultant John Strickland and, until now, Loganair has been a survivor.

Jonathan did a fantastic Job with Loganair, he navigated it through very difficult times and brought it back to profitability. his stepping down is a massive loss to the company, I hope who ever replaces Mr. Hinkles can fill his boots as they are quite large ones to fill at this point.

Used to fly on Saab 340s on Southampton to Amsterdam route back in the 90s Remember one trip where with only a handful of passengers we were asked to sit in specific seats to help balance the aircraft 🤐

Dom, Interesting fact about the Saab 340, the wings are glued on, I know this as I had tour of Saab factory back in early 90’s always remember this fact!! 😉 Nice video, didnt see any tissues? 🤣

What I'd like Loganair to do is to acquire one or two A220-300s and connect us in the west with Lisbon, Madrid, Toulouse, Lyon, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Vienna and/or Milan. Maybe Cork, Stavanger, Riga, Bremen, Basel, Nice or Bergen too. There's a lot they can work on! How about an A321 neo or two and fly to Newark or JFK and to Chicago or Washington or Boston? It'd be great to see Loganair's livery on an A321! Anyway, fantasies aside, the video was very good and a pity about the bloody Scottish weather! Thanks!

I’d LOVE to see Loganair operating some routes with the A220. I honestly don’t even think they’d need the a321 as the stated range on the MTOW for the a220 was recently increased & since it could already do transatlantic & as Scotland is in a prime place for transatlantic I think there would be plenty of options if they did get a few A220’s. Hey Dom! Great video, btw at the start of the video during your take of we saw the a380 taxiing and then at the end when you did the hanger tour it landed again. I thought Glasgow just had a daily a380 service?

I think the Saab 340 was better suited to the Highlands & Islands in that it could handle the challenging Scottish weather a lot better. I've seen a couple of ATR's having to hold for weather improvement (strong cross wind) whilst a Saab 340 arrived and departed without issue in the time they were holding. It will be a miss indeed.

They just effortlessly soak up the winds here which is why they are such good aircraft. Personally I wish the Saab 2000 was more popular with airlines so that there could have potentially been a direct 21st century replacement for the 340 & 2000, but sadly this was not to be.
