ArcoLinux recently released a new version (20.11.9). This release is the first one to offer a dwm edition of ArcoLinuxB. Since I love both Arco and dwm, I had to check this out.

17:40 You can shift positions by default in dwm; super-enter will swap the current selection to the master, and the master will become the next in the stack.

I think I already told you in one of your older videos about dwm, that it is possible to move clients around even without a patch. The function is called zoom. It moves the selected client to the master area and pushes the previous master back to the stack. The default keybinding for this is Mod+Return.

I'm a bit new to building any linux system from scratch so my knowledge of what software i need and what they do/differ from each other is limited. I think they have done what they should DT. I think they are correct in leaving it as it is (they’ve already themed it), this is so that a person patches it the way they want, like you want it patched the way you (DT) wants. Their other WMs are also such that you will still fine tune it the way you want. The only difference here is that DWM is very different to other WMs, it needs so much more care to become what a person wants.

I find it so weird that you always complain about there not being a way to shift positions. I know nobody besides you that even uses the rotate stack patch. Also for at least me personally having the zoom functionality (which is by default mod+enter) and the option to increment and decrement (mod+i, mod+d) is by far enough control I need over where my windows go. I really don't care which window on stack is on the top and which is on the bottom. They take up the same space. And even if I would it wouldn't be that hard to just hit the zoom key combo twice to send the current window to the top of the stack. dwm is all about minimalism and adding only the features you want. The things you consider essential patches aren't necessarily essential patches for others. Just because you don't like how they manage a thing by default doesn't mean that everyone dislikes it. For me dwm is definitely a 100% usable wm out of the box. I just patch it to polish it out a bit. Like for example the pertag patch is fairly important for me. I know others that don't bother with it though. And that's totally fine, you just get what you want and leave all the other stuff out
