A Flight Over the Surface of Saturn's Moon Titan
This computer animation gives us a glimpse of one of the Solar System's largest natural satellites - Titan, the biggest moon of Saturn. Titan is the only moon with a substantial atmosphere, even denser than Earth's. It surface rocks are made from water ice, while the seas are made up of hydrocarbons like ethane.
Titan, which is 50% bigger than our own Moon, was the subject of the Huygens probe in 2004, glimpsed at the end of this clip. It is the only known moon with a substantial atmosphere (of molecular nitrogen, as on Earth), but it is far, far colder than even our Antarctica, at -180 degrees Celsius. Its surface is primarily rock and water ice - and it is the only world aside from Earth on which stable bodies of liquid have been seen. But these are not lakes of water, which freezes as hard as rock on Titan. No, Titan's seas are made of methane.

I've learned a few things in the last year or so, but I really think it's ridiculous us astro artists don't suppoprt each other more. I'm going to be starting discussions on the IAAA list, and pushing the board to get this sorted. It's been growing steadily on twitter, (smal roup are VERY supportive), and we sghould be doing it much more on other channels.

An interesting animation video of a flight over the surface of Saturn's moon Titan. I wasn't aware that the atmosphere on Titan was thicker than our own atmosphere & I can imagine a few thunderstorms there too! It looks a very cold place indeed & interesting to see the methane lakes as well as the frozen rocky & icy surface & am looking forward to seeing more photos when that Dragonfly Drone has successfully landed!

I imagined Titan a little more orange and a little less gray, but perhaps this reconstruction is the most realistic. Very interesting video as well as spectacular.

Thanks. I tried to keep it gray because light levels here are very low. Colours will not be very vibrant.

@@spaceboffin Titan is orange seen from space, on the surface the ambient light is comparable to that of the terrestrial twilight after sunset, so your reconstruction is absolutely realistic. What made me think of an orange landscape is the only photo of Huygens taken after landing, the environment is orange and bright, but the image has probably been reworked.

Titan has the thickest atmosphere ever for the moons in our solar system, but luckily the atmospheric pressure is only about 20psi or so, which is like being at the bottom of the local recreational swimming pool. :)

Sorry I don't understand. Saturn and Titan have their own atmospheres. Titan orbits Saturn. No other physical connection

We are blessed to actually be on Earth beautiful situation for us only thing we understand fully is we are on Earth and we learning about everything else not living any wear else besides Earth it's beautiful to find out something new I'm interested in Everything about Universe and appreciate life better then not appreciate it I never actually new about Saturn moons I appreciate info and understand function of Moon wise of are Moon but I'm interested in what Saturn moons function are very interesting 🤔
