My current theory for Solution 9 is that it was created as the catalyst for the Calamity of Lightning, like how the Crystal Tower was the catalyst for the Calamity of Earth.

Along what I was thinking, it might be an ark city from the shard that got wiped out by lighting. That or my other theory was it is a seed or part of what they were setting up for the 9th calamity.

So don't know if you've gotten to look at the patch special site yet but they did recently show a picture of the hrothgal we are meeting wearing a hat.
