Hmm there is that woman who had the NAMateurs on visit:) So what do you do if you hook a 40+ pounder on that 16 pound test line. Here in the Gaula in Norway 70 meters from my house a 16 pound line is more or less unheard of and anything less than 30lb line is very very rare even when the river is extremely low since there is always the risk of a 40 + fish everywhere, every day of the entire season. Now i dont know how big the fish get in your local rivers but i know some of the rivers there have the 40 + fish too.

Hey! Thanks for the comment. Most of our leader is Maxima chameleon which has a slightly higher breaking point than what is listed. What kind of leader do you use in Norway? We use a lot of big dry flies for Atlantic salmon, and we like a stiff leader so it can turn over the flies. How is the leader you use?

@@tightloopstightlines Well i dont really use dry flies because the rivers are normally pretty coloured here but i like the stiff leaders too for turning over. I normally tie the leaders myself and i use Guideline Egor flurocarbon leaders between 40 and 22 lb for the most part and down to you 16 lb in extremely low water when i am pretty sure there are no big fish at that spot at that time but i am the only one i know here that use leaders that thin. Most never go under 30 lb leaders.

have you ever tried using a spey rod 2 hander way easier on the body I love it you can throw the fly twice as far with 1\3rd of the energy.

Absolutely. There’s a few rivers here where a 2 hander is key. Check out season 2 episodes 6 & 9. In the rivers we fish here the dry fly fishing is just too good to purely swing flies - and that’s what drives us! Where are you fishing Eric? Thanks for watching :)

@@tightloopstightlines I live on Vancouver Island steelhead and salmon here. I've never caught an Atlantic before. theres 1 river up near sayward that has had atlantics but just small ones and if there caught there killed there from net pens but 1 day I hope to fish an east coast river and hook 1.
